MicroVitec M1438S in combination with VGAOnly
I have always uses either Super72: Super Highres Laced or DBLPal: Highres no Flicker with my A1200 with M1438.
Today I have been experimenting with different monitor-drivers with this monitor to see if i was able to fill the left and right borders im cobination with VGAOnly installed and using 31Khz-modes. I am aware that it's possible to fill the screen with for example PAL:Highres. But these 1438-monitors... were they not able to fill the screen back in the days even when they were connected to a PC? For example with 640x480 or 800x600? The closest I can find is Multiscan: Productivity With overscan I can reach 656 x 495, and there are still black borders on the left and right side. The reason that I'm trying to use 31Khz-modes is that I feel that the picture is more stable and a bit lighter. The strange thing is that on 1438, the grey Workbench-color seem to me like they are a little bit greenish for some reason. I can remember that from the old days too. I got two of them, one Amiga-brandet and one MicroVitec, and they both show the same result. Compared to Commodore 1942 the colors on the 1942 seems to be much more accurate. Please refresh my memory! |

I have one of these in storage. Will dig it out and tinker over the weekend.
It needs recapped though as the picture rolls and whines a bit. Do you know of a BOM and instructions for those? |

The VGAOnly driver does reduce how much of the screen you can fill in multiscan modes - I found with my 1438 the best results came from DblNTSC without VGAOnly installed - but no, you can't completely fill the borders. The best you can do is use an overscan hack and MonEd - there are various options on Aminet. (I think some of them work better on KS3.0 than 3.1, though - I'm sure on my A4000 back in the day I managed to get Video overscan (something like 768 x 450) DblNTSC on Workbench. The trade-off was that horizontal autoscrolling no longer worked.

Thanks a lot robinsonb5, I'll check a few setups with VGAOnly disabled and using DblNTSC.
