Image FX user? Help needed!

Hello!
I own an ImageFX 4.5 CD and finally got things installed and working.
I could use some help getting up to speed. I can do basic things. I'm having trouble doing animation.
One example question is, how do I write out DCTV anims? Do I need to write a script? AutoFX?
Anybody remember, anybody wanna spill the beans on how this thing called ImageFX works? How to I do simple transformations over time......

hi,

you can use the Hook IMP to create an image-sequence.
choose an image (Main) and Destination name - "Save 24-Bit-Images".
this sequence you can now add in the Hook AutoFX
i've tested with the following commands: load.ifx | eot_swirl.ifx | savebufferas_jpeg.ifx
the resulting sequence i've imported in Mainactor Broadcast and made an anim out of it.

i got some crash/guru/errors when i was trying to save as mpeg/anim in imagefx,
so i did the things above.

#1) the hook FXForge got some nice filters (settings) - wonder how one can animate those things.
cannot find something within AutoFX to activate/use this hook.

#1) IMP itself can also add some effects - use menu open and load an example script.

2 emufan:

i'm trying to convert .avi files to .anim.

I've used animconvert http://aminet.net/package/gfx/conv/AnimConvert but this gives me a sequence of 24 bit frames.

i've then tried using Image Fx Autofx to load the frames. I get as far a choosing the save name for the animation and Image Fx gurus. A bit like you've said happens to you.

I also have a full edition of MainActor Broadcast. can you tell me how load the frames and make an anim out of it?

Mainactor Broadcast is a good choice. well, howto use it:

#1) once started , ensure all windows are open ( Menu -> Windows -> Control/Display/Text.. )

#2) in Control Windows click on the left-upper Universal tab to load an avi animation.

#3) in the project windows all the single frames are listed.
goto menu: Selection - Select All

#4) now push the little tiny button right of the upper save button
and choose anim format ( "iff anim 7 32" for example )

#5) next push the save button titled "iff anim 7 32" and a file requester will come up.

edit: if you want scale the animation, you can choose "effect" and select module scale.
in its settings window you can choose percentage of scaling ( 50 100 200) or do it manualy.
next select the frames again in project window and push the save button again..

hint: start with a small and short avi.

Problem: just tested an old avi of a pixar animation - MA Broadcast does import it, but does interpret all
frames as just black ones. *sigh* must find a compatible codec first :/

edit: maybe it is easier to extract all frames using ffmpeg
Quote:
ffmpeg -i input.avi output_%04d.jpg
and import the image sequence into MainActor.
the lower left "universal" button does load images - image-sequences.
if you have a sequence, first choose 1st image, on next requester choose last image.
select again all frames in project window and save as anim.

edit: MABroadcast menu -> Selection -> Select Compression ( when loaded an avi) you can see:
AVI_RGB (uncompressed bitmaps) ?!
AVI_CRAM (Microsoft Video 1 or MS-CRAM) ?!
AVI_RLE8 (MS RLE codec) ?!
AVI_CVID (Cinepak) ?!
AVI_UTIL

i think these are the avi codecs MAB can use.

@emufan. Thanks for taking the time to do all that! I'll give both MAB and ffmpeg a go.

if anyone is interested and has an OS4 licence you can get Image Fx Lite which is Image Fx 3 with some ppc components eg jpeg loader is ppc only from:

http://os4depot.net/index.php?functi...s/edit/ifx.lha

It installs and runs in OS 3.9. i just copied over the 68 k jpeg loader from Image FX 1.5 cover disc I had lying around.
