Think the title of the thread (and the auction) should be changed. The Amitek Hawk is a ram expansion AFAIK and NOT an accelerator.
http://www.bboah.com/index.php?actio...996&artlang=en EDIT: Talk about false advertising - the Ebay bidding is up to £67 already with 4 days to go! Auction winner might be disappointed if they haven't paid attention to the specs. listed in the auction. Hmmmm..... Last edited by DrBong; 14 August 2013 at 14:21. |

Technically, it isn't an accelerator, but it is more than just a Ram Expansion, as it has provision for a 68882 Maths CoPro & this Processing unit actually does accelerate the A1200's Floating Point Calculations considerably. This in turn releases these intensive calculations from the CPU, thereby increasing the A1200's 020 CPU speed when dealing with FPU calculations.
However, the advert does say it will increase WHDLoad speed, which is true if the only Ram you had in an A1200 was PCMIA mounted stuff. However, FPU's will not do anything for WHDLoad games generally. There might be one or two titles at most that would benefit from these FPU cycles iirc. |

Only on AmiBay I believe.
However, this forum does have a dedicated ebay links section & would have thought prowler might have moved it there @ the time he changed the thread title. |

huh... winning bid is 122GBP
I'm sure someone will be disappointed. I had this memory expansion card a few years ago and it isn't PCMCIA friendly if there is more then 4MB of memory. The last time I check for prices for just memory cards they where around 50€ and Blizzard IV 1230 with 32MB or more RAM was around 150€. Edit: Unless I'm out of touch and prices has risen recently? No I think someone has thought they were buying a proper accelerator or it could be bidding up by disgruntled user/shill bidder.
With the new ACA cards available one would be a little bit dim (or uneducated) to spend £122 on a 4mb/8mb Trapdoor Fast Ram card! And if your dumb enough to splash out without doing any research you're just as guilty as the mis-discription. That said, I believe the Hawk does actually, like some other Fast Ram cards describe it's self as an Accelerator! |

Actually I have one. The problem is that some chip doesn't like to manage 8mb.
