A500 kick 1.3 in A600..?

Possible? Can I just swap my A500's kick 1.3 and slam it in my A600? Of course I'll lose PCMCIA and IDE support, but can I boot A500 disks on it and 'use it as an A500'? That would be awesome!
Would like to know before I open both my miggies

You can do better than that. You can use a 1MB Eprom and be able to switch from KS 1.3 to KS3.1 by flipping a switch which will give you better options for loading games without using relokick

Heh, that's for sure a nice method!
However, I'm only going to use my A600 'the oldskool way', aka. using floppies. I have loads of DD floppies and a nice Catweasel MKIV.
I don't need IDE in it.. I use my lovely A1200 for WB stuff.

Thats what i use it for, thing is, a lot of the later games don't like certain Kickstarts so this way allows you to load probably abou 90% of all non AGA floppies

older games wont play on higher than 1.2, 1.3 etc so backward compatability is best

Yes, but nowhere near 10% of them...

Bad cracks is another question entirely

Would be interesting to know if there are cracks of OCS games that _require_ an A1200 to work, hehehe...

Lol yeah just put your kickstart 1.3 in your amiga 600, it works perfect! I did it once same reason you want to. I think you can even put an amiga 600 2.05 in a non plus 500!

Yes you can. I did it myself some time ago in one A500 crying for a ROM update and it just work. ROM is the 2.05 37300 version

i tried myself it didnt start

I think i also know why , first of all the chipset is different , amiga is ocs a 600 i ecs .

Second a600 has ide controller and amiga doesnt

3d a 500 has 512k ram and i dont think kick 1.3 can handle 1 mb ram


Anyway it didnt work when i tried on my a600.

it simply turned on but didnt start

A500 accepts from 1.2 up to 3.1 ( single chip 512k )

a600 from 2.0 up to 3.1 (single chip)

If its just for game use relokick

it works great trust me

Think your incorrect here.

I have used Kick1.3 in an A600 before with no problems.

Chipset has nothing to do with it, niether does the IDE controller and certainly not the 1MB memory.

You can use KS 1.3 in an A600, I have mine set up on a 1MB eprom so i can dual boot between 1.3 and 3.1. There is also a modified KS1.3 about that allows HD installation. There is a link above that shows how to do it

Did you align the chip correctly in the socket? There are two pins left over on the pcmcia slot side.

Makes no difference, A3000 is full ECS and was shipped with kick 1.3. Many 1.3 machines were shipped with half ECS. (1MB Agnus, standard Denise)

It just doesn't have drivers, but otherwise doesn't make any difference.

Back in the day, just about everyone had a 1MB chip mod around my neighborhood without upgrading to KS2.04. The A3000 has 2MB chip and that works with 1.3 too.
