Highway and an USB multicard reader

Hi again, I have a highway and I pretend to attach a cheap USB multicard reader to it. I just wanted to know if the way I am doing it in the picture is correct, or if I have to plug it the other way.



The Highway cost me an arm and a leg, so I want to be completely sure I am doing it the right way, so I dont blue it up. Please understand, that for this reasons good guesses are not useful to me, I just need certainty

Sorry to revive this thread.

I also have a Highway and just bought a second hand Apacer MegaSteno AE161 internal cardreader. However the Highway has 4x 5 pin IDC connections and the Apacer comes with a 9pin IDC connector.

Is this 9pin connection actually the same as 2 5 pin connectors? I.e. can I pry a whole in the blocked 10th pin of the Apacer and connect it to 2 5pin headers on the Highway?

Yes essentially the 9pin connector is 2x 5pin connectors with one pin not connected. In fact most (maybe all?) devices only connect 4 pins. Just make sure the ground pin's are connected at the correct side and you should be good to go, if your 9pin has a blanked socket just push it through making the extra hole if needed.

It's keyed to make sure idiots don't plug it the wrong way round but in the old days USB devices came with separated pins and you and to connect them correctly to each pin individually.

Your USB card reader has 2 connections, one for the USB port and one for the Card reader.
