Any reason for running hdf games compared to whdload on real A1200?

I know hdf-files (one game/hdf, WB included) are very handy with for example MiST/Winuae, but is there any reasonable reason (poetry...) for running hdf-based games on a real A1200 compared to "the standard" whdload on a ClassicWB?

Plussses/minuses?

How would you run HDF files on a real Amiga? Mount as an image and reboot into it using RAD:? Can't see the benefit of that, other than you'll have fewer files on your HDD.

I thought it actually is possible with a boot floppy of sorts? That's actually the reason I'm asking: I don't have the slightest idea

Do you mean installing games using their "native" installer as opposed to using the WHDLoad versions?

In this case it can mean less memory required. From what I've seen with WHDLoad you need a shite load of memory, especially with larger games.

Well, memory use has been mentioned. But another reason one might want to mount a HDF is simply when there is no WHDLoad install available, or maybe the slave is buggy and still needs some work.

I was referring the these versions made by ransom1122:

http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=84267

Would these be of any use on a real A1200?

Those are essentially installs where the only thing you have on the hard drive is a single WHDLoad install of a game. Unless you only ever want to play that particular game, no, it doesn't make sense to use those on a real system.

That usually won't help you since such old installs usually require manual assigns to be set.

Umm, what? If I mount a HDF which has had a game installed on it then won't it already have the appropriate drive label? And I don't see the problem with having to make an assign anyway.

It's often more than one drive label (Civilization uses at least four), and if you're going to make assigns by yourself, why use a HDF when you could just have installed the game on your own drive (or used an lha archive) in the first place?
