Seems the budget versions skipped the RNC protection and most of the upper side is wasted as it's mostly trash/unformatted and not used!

Side effect of it being an Atari ST format, ST developers had to contend with ST owners that had single sided drives and double sided drives, so for a long time, they wrote their games to be single side loaders and had to add disks instead of using the other side.

its a bizarre situation really, I don't know why they didn't force owners to change their drives.
its what they did with Amiga, every game needed 1meg of memory, owners went and upgraded. Upgrading a floppy drive in an ST wasn't tricky. |

I did *cough* own *cough* a 520ST once but mine did have a double sided drive in it funnily enough, can't ever remember upgrading the drive but I did take it to some computer place in Loughborough around 1985 to have it upgraded to 1meg, not as easy as popping in an extra 512k like in the Amiga though!

Must have been every byte of that single side used that ENEMY was just too much to fit on

Anyway, I'd rather have speech than no speech during the game.....even if the speech isn't the greatest! Otherwise it becomes a bit monotonous like the C64 version of Beach Head with just simple sound FX. Quote:

They probably just removed the speech in order to fit more on the disk. This was back in the time when compacts were common.
