Game does something really weird (or stupid) with interlace long/short field flags. (resets if after every frame instead of letting it toggle normally)

Result is undefined display.

This only seem to happen when rescaling is enabled in FILTER.

Question

Hello all,

My first post in this forum.

I currently trying to configure my WinUAE to play at Evil's Doom but i can't have good gfx.

I'm wondering what i doing wrong ...

I have installed Picasso96 and MUI and set my UAE graphic card with 16Mo and into emulated Amiga set to UAE 640*480 16 bit PC with 256 colors but when i start evil's doom the first screen is awfull.

Please could you give me some hints how to have good graphics ?

And excuse me for my "not perfect" english.

You don't need P96 or MUI, EDM won't use them. You need to configure an AGA machine, as the game just bangs on the hardware. That is, something as close as possible to A1200 (perhaps with some fastmem), as it works ok on mine.

Maps: covered with darker lines about half of the time I open them, making them very dark
Characters: covered with darker lines, removed by dragging the mouse cursor over them, appears after watching the automap
Cutscenes: somewhat distorted with darker areas that gives a "muddy" look. When you pass the cutscene into a town or something and use space to swap resolution you can see the image in it's full non-mudded glory.

I am running the game in WinUAE ofcourse and I have tried almost any option I can think of when it comes to exchanging screenmodes in workbench, in winuae, filters, scanlines, displaymodes, cpu and chipset options, RTG on and off etc.
I encountered this problem few times. If you see flickering in Olympia logo, just quit WinUAE and start it again. Sometimes this occurs, sometimes not... If this happens all the time, PM me your email address and I'll send you my configuration file.

Nice. I think now it's really time to play this game. What about the legal status of v1.8? Is it released as freeware to the community?

So I'm pretty sure this isn't a "sanctioned" and proper release.

On one of the screenshots Vantan holds trident. Where did it come from? I've never found it.

May be the new release additions have more do to with in-game progress issues than compatibility fixes.
After copying the content of the .iso to the HDD, I added to following at the beginning of "StartSaga!" minimalist launch instructions
Code:
Assign >nil: EVIL: ""
To get rid of most of the interlace artifacts, I use DirectDraw (and no filter on) instead of D3D.

One thing that bothers me is that the whole screen turns yellow when the party dies, and there's nothing one can do at this point to load a new or saved game, apparently (I had loaded the last saved game from the list, made a few footsteps with num keyboard, only to notice coming from nowhere lethal fireballs). The new release doesn't fix this.
All the above concerns playing the game with WinUAE, I have no idea how the various releases behave on an actual miggy.

Not sure if anyone had PDF'd the manual before so here it is (the one from the new release is truncated) :
http://netcomet.free.fr/archives/-mi...FullManual.lzh

Sadly, as of now, the game appears to me mostly like a copy protection showcase than anything else.

You could previously too, and the baddy didn't last long in front of me.

I agree, your version has all mentioned features and came long time before this version.

I tried this V1.8 version and still have problems with the interlace mode or corrupt gfx.

I´m using an A1200 with Indi AGA, but the intro is flickering.
Another problem: the ingame gfx have to be fixed many, many times by pressing the space bar. This is so annoying...

Can I force "Evil´s Doom" to use a specific resolution?

Thanks for your help.

Intro is flickering because it is coded to do that. Perhaps for some kind of weird effect that only works with old televisions? (It modifies interlace odd/even field bit every few fields)

It also fails to correctly setup in-game interlace mode causing random reversed fields (odd becomes even and vice versa)
