Amiga single game cracks or ST menu disks

While the Amiga was far better than the ST and I still enjoy gaming through WinUAE unlike the ST (using STEem which is an excellent emu) I must admit I preferred all the menu disks and the efforts made to cram stuff on a disk (when they didn't do so by removing stuff which some of the crap crackers did)

I know there are many compacts on the Amiga too, but they don't have the same feeling as they did on the ST where you got a feel for whats going on.

I always used to enjoy reading the scrolltext when I had my ST but couldn't be arsed when I got an Amiga.

I always liked both, the compacts on Amiga (Defjam/CCS packs immediately spring to mind, reset cracking for the win ) but also f.e. the Pompey Pirates menu disks on ST. Both have their own flair

I'm a bit more into single disk versions (although there is much wasted space ). Some comilationas are really neat though and I must admit the Atari had the better menus...

Never understood why the menus were so lame on the Amiga. Must have been a bunch of lazy coders back then

The fact that so many games on them are missing things? The fact they take 100000% (estimated value) longer than the orig to run because of unpacking? :P

Actually I like both, I just thought I'd stir some shit

Because of stuff removed to fit them on one disk

Generally because most of the time stuff was removed even if you didn't always realise it at the time.

edit: great minds think alike eh

Atari menus were better, but I think thats mainly because of two reasons.

Lots of Atari ST owners were single sided drive owners so that there was an incentive to compact stuff down, and secondly Atari ST games were capable of being compacted better because music with samples were not in the majority of games, and they had less colours, all in all, helped contribute to ST games being compacted better.

On Amiga, there was only the compact scene for early games, and then they got too big to be significantly reduced in size.

The menu scene was better on Amiga for intro/dentro compilations I think, quite a bit of effort was done there, games were just getting too big too quickly.

Amiga single game cracks for me also due to the reasons already mentioned by others. The main one for me being missing intros, screens etc...

I'm only talking about games that were small enough to be packed together on one disk (the really old ones ). I hate these 'ah yeah let's cut the intro and put it all on one disk' crap cracks.

I only had one of these disks.. it had Rick Dangerous and some other small game. As far as I recall, it was the full game. I might be wrong though.. but Rick Dangerous is pretty small, right?

Yup, Rick Dangerous wasn't very big (but a great game!) Leonard even managed to do it in 32k.
