CDTV PROM flash board...

I'm after a little bit of advice.

I opened my CDTV up tonight and it is a revision 2.3 board (last).

Now, slap bang in the middle is a flash board for the PROM's which is blocking me from installing an Indivision and the Elbox 2MB fast ram upgrade!

What can I do to aleviate this? Can the flash board be removed and just stick the PROM's in their sockets? The PROM's are actually situated under the flash board itself and I think they are soldered direct which is going to be a pain in the arse. Does anyone know if I could obtain pre-programmed PROM's so I can pull the flash board and put the new PROMs in place? Can the CDTV work without this board?

I will pay someone to do this if they have the know-how and experience with the CDTV in this area! Just name your price as it's been doing my head in all night wondering how to get round it!

I thank you

Hi Paul,

You can download a full service manual for the CDTV here (.PNG images, 1.3MB), which might shed some light on this.

Yes you can swap the flash board for 2x extended EPROMs. Or if you like you can swap both plus the Kickstart for a Super-All in one switcher. (See Toni's post)

I'll swap you some updated 2.7 EPROMs for your flash board if you like

Sounds like a plan! So, with the 2.7 EPROMs - would it just be a matter of unplugging the flash board, inserting the EPROMs and job done? No other work involved?

Sounds the easiest way if thats so... will send a PM and we can sort something out ta

I believe so. You might also want to fit a 27C800 EPROM instead of your KS Flash so you can have KS1.3 for CDTV discs and KS3.1 for Workbench apps.

I don't own a working CDTV so I won't be able to test the EPROMs before shipping (but you can hang onto your flash card till everything is working). You will also have to point me in the direction of the exact binaries you want (e.g. U34, U35 etc) for each of the EPROMs then I can label them correctly.
