A1000 Single Dead Key

Hi,

I just powered up my A1000 and was testing it out to see if it works. It all seems perfect except only the 'T' key will not register. All the other keys appear to work fine.

I did a search (perhaps I did not find the right trigger) but did not see how to fix a key.

Is there a way to get the 'T' key back working, or do I need to find a whole new keyboard?

Thanks

Hi simono71, and welcome to EAB!

If the 'T' key action feels normal, then your keyboard might just need a good clean. It's amazing what finds its way inside. Just try giving it a clean to start with.

The A1000 keyswitches can be dismantled and cleaned, but be very careful, small bits may fly out. Have a large clean table to work on. :-)

Also, be careful taking the A1000 keyboard apart, the covers are held on with small plastic tabs which are a pain in the backside!

@paul_s: you shouldn't put 'em up there.

A good clean will probably sort it - I had the same problem with a 3 key on a 1000

How exactly do I clean it? I pulled the key off, then opened up the case, removed all the screws, but couldn't find a way to separate the circuit board from the black top bit. It looks like the keys are clipped into this black plastic 'cover' and then soldered to the board. I removed all the screws and wasn't able to separate the two pieces.

I used a compressor to blow air through it a best I can. Now the key works if I whack it real hard...which is better than before but not great
