WHDLoad SWOS Playtesters needed
What, you thought I want to playtest it myself?
So, need some volunteers to playtest this install. Basically, I only really want to hear from people that when they play my original WHDLoad install, suffer slowdowns because that is what the update is going to tackle. 2 Separate slaves will be provided in the install, one is the original one for people that don't have any problems (and memory requirements might be reduced) and the 2nd slave will be for those that experience slowdowns. So, willing volunteers please, we will be tackling each version of SWOS one at a time as there is so bloody many of them! Once this is done, I will have the slave display the version of SWOS being played onscreen, so that any future bug reports can be narrowed down to which particular version of SWOS you are playing, as not all bugs are relevant for all versions of SWOS. FINALLY, an excuse to get into SWOS, as I only ever played sensible way back when. I have tried one Version of SWOS (11 I think) and saw the slowdowns, these were fixed by the CACHE option but I still couldn't stop that bastard Mark Hateley from scoring a hat trick against Aberdeen. Maybe after a few blasts on all versions I'll be good enough to right the wrongs of 93/94, (the last time Aberdeen were any good).
If the problem I saw isn't the one you're trying to fix, I'll play anyway, just as a control, purely in the interests of science. What do I need to do? |

I can do testing on Blizzard PPC and Cyberstorm PPC (both 060) as these are the setups normally affected by slowdown, with my work I'm severly limited for time but I will test 96/97 versions as a priority and report back.

@Galahad/FLT: I do not have too much free time but if you want send slave to me. I can test it under WinUAE or better real Amiga 1200 with 3.0 kickstart and only 4 MB Elsat's memory extension.

So just to reiterate people, so long as you have an Amiga where the slowdown problem is an issue for you, then I need your services and it will be appreciated. Also i'll look into the tactics bug that affects some versions as well. |

Hmmm, I never see slowdowns issues. Only some slowdowns caused probable by high PC CPU usage because I connect Amiga to EasyCap and view signal by it composites cabled on my PC under DScaler, because I do not own monitor and enought free room for it and I do not want to busy TV in parents room. So probable this fix do not include my problems.

Awesome news Galahad! I honestly can't remember whether I noticed any slow-downs, so I'll fire up the game this weekend and try. Would be happy to try some testing, and the tactics bug when fixed will make some people very happy!

For some reason I missed the mantis bug report on the tactics bug, it was only after a Google search I found it, so as far as I understand it, the tactics are saved correctly, but don't load up properly or at all.

Great news! Thanks Galahad!
If you need another playtester, I'd be available. |

OK, great, looks like I have a team of playtesters, cheers chaps, will make this a lot quicker.
One thing I do need confirming is, does the tactic bug affect ALL supported versions of SWOS? |

What is the tactics bug and how do I replicate it?
I guess you will be telling us how to test and report results but so far I have tested the following. A600, KS3.1, ACA630, IndiECS, ClassicWBADVSP Acatune maprom and fastchip enabled. WHDLoad version 17.0.4881 SWOS slave version 1.7 installed SWOS versions from KG packs SWOS SWOS 11 SWOS 95/96 SWOS 96/97 SWOS EURO All these version had a slowdown problem. NOVBRMOVE did not help the slowdown and all versions except 96/97 and EURO crashed during the first 3 minute match using this option. CACHE option seems to solve the slowdown on all versions for this setup. SWOS 95/96 dumped me back to workbench a couple of times with WHDLOAD reporting illegal instruction errors. Massive bug, most urgently in need of fixing, Andy Goram and Gordon Durie were NEVER that bloody good. Man I suck at this game, improving a bit though. |

Hey Galahad,
just tried all KG's SWOS packs: SWOS SWOS 11 SWOS 95/96 SWOS EURO SWOS 96/97 Tested on my A1200, 4mb expanded FAST Ram, (Zorro II 193) Using latest WHDLoad, ClassicWB, 4Gb CF card. Could replicate the Tactic error on all above installs. (Basically, I go into edit tactics, make a change, then save it. I then go back into tactics editor, choose one of the custom tactics, choose import, load, and choose the previously saved one, and it then places all the players near bottom right of tactics pitch). I also tried playing some quick matches on all versions, didn't notice any slowdowns, but do the slowdowns only affect 040's/060's? Anyway, can get more detailed information on my setup if required... |

+1 on the tactics bug present in all KG pack versions.
Seems like this bug perhaps triggers other problems. I experienced some graphical glitches in the edit tactics screen and several crashes during a match after having loaded a tactics set. A side effect of the wonky tactics data? |
