OT but relevant cos i live in the hardware section

Ok, yes, i know this is WAY off topic, but as i spend most of my time in the hardware section i thought id post here.

I have a few jobs to do for some people here, but i have been taking a very long time doing them For example i have had a 1240 from prart on my desk for ages waiting to be upgraded to a 1260. and i have to make a few 1240 regulator boards and also i have been asked to supply some 74f74's All of this and more i have not done yet. Here is why.

Some background info..

My wife and i split in 1999, by then we had 3 kids. she is dutch and went back to live in Holland with the children. Three years ago, i lost contact with my kids and the ex. 2 years ago i found that she has become mentally ill and the children were put in care. For the last two years i have been battling with the courts and the dutch social service's to get them back to England and into my care. Over the last 6 months i have been very busy traveling to Holland and back, for court cases and to see the kids.

As you can imagine this is quite a problem for me and sometimes i can concentrate on electronics and Amiga related bits, other times i simply don't have the time or even any interest. Time and interest comes and goes and things get left behind and not finished.

Well, why am i telling you all this? because in the next two weeks i will be in Holland again. I'm having evaluations done by the dutch social services and i will be going to court to find out their decision on weather or not i get the kids or if they stay in care for yet another year. As you can understand this is quite a stressful time for me. I will be popping in from time to time, and checking my messages and email. But please don't expect much else.

I have some hardware that belongs to some members here, i have informed them of the situation. but just in case it gets out of hand i thought id post here. Don't worry I'm not stealing your equipment. It may just take me a while before anything gets done.

You never know i may return with three kids, then i will never have anytime for hobbies! But i think that will be a good thing!

EDIT: I have to add, i since posting this message i have since received two more requests for repairs. I have to say i wont be taking any more work on for the time being. Sorry guys.

@Dimlow

I wish you the best luck in your quest to get custody of your children.

No parent in your position should have to go through what you've had to.

I'm hoping for some good news on your return.

Thank you all for the kind messages. I was not expecting these sorts of messages. Was just trying to explain myself and stop a lot of the requests i get for fixes and upgrades. I enjoy mucking about with electronics and stuff, but it does take time a concentration, both things that i don't have a lot of right now.

Damn, another fellow Kent man. I know how you feel when you say you didn't see your kids for a while as I didn't see my daughter for 18 months due to the mother. Thankfully for me and my daughter we have been in contact and I have her twice a week, every week. I truly hope things work out for you and your children.

Good luck. I hope you are reunited soon with your children. If you need extra financial help (for court fees, etc.) I'm sure your EAB friends would be willing to pitch in. (I know I would at least...)

I've only just seen this, Dimlow.

For what it's worth, I'll be thinking of and hoping for the best outcome for all of you. Take care, update us when you can (and if you feel like it) and... don't let those interests fall away too far. Whether something that requires serious concentration or something more frivolous like a game, from time to time, we do need those escapes from it all. Sounds like the demands for your soldering time may just a little too much, though!

By the way, good on you for explaining things, too. That alone isn't always easy and I'm sure that it'll also put people's minds at rest - if not entirely stop those 'Help meeeeee!' requests that you've already had since the original post!

Good luck, Man.

Court was today

Court was today and now i finaly have accepted the outcome. It has taken me a while to come to believe what i heard in court becuase it went so well.

First, before telling you the result i have to thank you all again for your support with this. I did not expect it.

Soo, the result from todays hearing was this, the children are coming for a holiday to england in august, then again another holiday in the aultum, then finally christmas they will come over again. They will not be returning to holland after the christmas holidays. they will be living with me. I did not expect this result, i expected more court hearings and more delays, Im so happy now It will be my best christmas present ever, and i hope the best christmas for the children too.

I still think im dreaming!
