I just found that the trainers in the whdload slave do not make invulnerable to missiles, only to enemy ships. And I've dropped it in frustration again. The SE version. The easy one. At the end of the first level.
Not a game for me, obviously. |

On level 2 at the end of level baddie, position the ship in the top right corner and let the missiles & side weapons do the job (not in SE). This trick actually makes it easier than SE. On level 3 at the end of level baddies, position the ship as close to the lava in bottom left corner and let the missiles & side weapons do the job (works for SE too). |

Level 2? Level 3?? You talk science fiction mate
I'll browse through Tosec to see if there's a version trained for everything: that way I can actually play the real game, that is pressing space bar to hear power ups! |

Or better yet, the WHDLoad version using CUSTOM1=1 tool type, no more accidental weapon select.
I always hated that select weapon "feature" using the joystick, thankfully that can be disabled in the WHD version. |

Ho-hum..
So it seems I have improved my score a little. It reminds me of Wolfchild in current compo where you have to play "bad" to get a better score. In a faultless, no lives lost playthrough, score is lower. Some games ought to have a bonus score for no hit runs.. Last edited by Retroplay; 13 March 2020 at 23:41. Reason: typo |

That's a good one for a dedicated thread - showboating hi score lists for insane games.

@Retroplay
How far in the game did you go for that top score? Im like most Project X players in the same boat in always dying on level 2 |

I think this is one of those games where you have to learn patterns. I am still learning, but can now get to the second stage without losing a life and with no cheats, quite regularly (I know, long way to go yet).
Same happened with Ghost'n Goblins, which I finally learnt to beat with a single coin. I am one of those gamers who like challenges (I love Dark Souls), and these games can last me many months - I never give up. |

Exactly, once enemy patterns are memorized it's really not that difficult.

Are save states considered cheat??
I completed it by using save states, after watching iirc retroplay's video back when youtube was limited to 10 minutes. IIRC, there was also single coin Robocop arcade on his channel. That was some good stuff there... |

Ah yes, that was a loooong time ago, before Foogle decided to fu*k up YT, hence the reason I ditched YT.
In hindsight I should have kept the original videos and posted them somewhere else, live and learn. |
