Readers of this thread may like to know that next month's Retro Gamer magazine (Issue65, out on 18th June) will include a feature on the Acorn Archimedes a a gaming platform.

It will be interesting to see what RG says. The Archie is a fantastic retro-gaming platform with some great native games as well as the ports but lets face it: The 'scene' sucks & as a result support / software / mods are hard to come by...
...did I mention some of us are attempting to help with that?

Um, back to electricity:
I'm on holls for a week & as I don't want the house burning down while my back's turned I'll have to switch everything off while I'm away - sorry.

Hello all,
Back from holls & my house is still standing - a good start I feel.

The Qube server's rebuilt with a spare case & working well, so service as 'usual' I guess.

@Methanoid:
Too many retro toys & not enough time, I know that feeling!

The A3020 is a great computer - more than up to some fiddling + retro games action. Give Methanoid a PM.

Oooo, please do!

To my knowledge the RISCiX install files are quite hard to come by - a bit of a bugger if your Acorn Unix box goes down or you want to create one from a standard machine.

Hi Charlie,

RISCiX uploads have been completed!

The files are accompanied by webpage html code to show from where they were downloaded, although many of the links are now dead.

One exception is the RISCiX.tar.gz file, which was downloaded from the Vintage Computing Files Archive ( http://vcfa.890m.com ), which has no accompanying webpage code.

I have not tested any of these files; I just grabbed them when they were available.

Apparently a RISC OS version of Fire And Ice was released. I'd love to see this in action, but it seems almost impossible atm. No online places which sell it, no game demo to be found, and no videos to show off the gameplay. Balls!

Let's hope this gets rescued soon. A review of it on Acorn Gaming mentioned something about it being copy protected, if that's important to know.

It's much like the Amiga version, but with broken music, no copperbars (although there is a little parallax at night) and completely broken protection which doesn't work properly on most machines. It was released alarmingly late (1995, after Renegade were bought by Warner), which makes me think it's a beta that got released by mistake.

CJE micro's have a few copies for £4, though there's no emulator that will run it at present (even Arculator WIP won't get past the protection). I could send ADFs, but you'd be unable to get past level 3.

I see. Well, seeing as I just like to see how it performs in action, I wouldn't mind trying out what would essentially be a three-level demo. So feel free to send 'em over if you can!

Quick update:
There's more stuff on the developing projects page for those with an interest. More to come as soon as I work out what's wrong with both my newly dead A3000's.

Also rather more stuff on the FTP server itself.

The BB's a bit quite but, hey, not much advertising so far...

Just a heads up to inform you that it isn't a good idea to use apostrophes or ampersands in filenames since the server you're using seems to keel over and die with a "Cannot Open File!" error should one attempt to download such a file.

So far I've witnessed this with Burn'Out, Pandora's Box and Fire & Ice.

I was a member of WROCC for a while after discovering RISC OS is still barely alive as a platform. The scene itself is rubbish though, overpriced and underspec machines needed to run the latest version of the OS (sound familiar?!), not many resources for the older stuff online.

I never really regarded the platform as a gaming one, I only ever played a demo of Lemmings 2! Although it did inspire me to get the full Amiga version!
