Commodore 1581 Disk Drives
Hi,
Even though this is an Amiga forum, I thought this would be of interest. Since I own several Amigas and Commodore machines. I have Commodore 1581 Disk Drives for sale. drop me a message at cbitsATnishtekDOTcom if you wish to order one. working drives. not boxed. no yellowing, maybe some very minor scuffs but nothing too serious. i can provide photos of actual unit you get. serious offers only. I'm thinking range of $90-125. Powersupplies for 110V users. Sorry I have no 220V powersupplies. |

This guy wants $175 for an untested drive (loading directory & few programs is not a test). http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=290337990807 $125 - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=120458281532 $100 - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=130319222567 $60 - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=300324513194 for a kit with "I cannot provide any technical support". BTW, someone did win the service manual for 1581 for $200 (now thats crazy). http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=290338108736 Last edited by nishtek; 13 August 2009 at 05:06. |

50-75$. Hey, you asked what I would consider a better price
I should have written 'normal/standard eBay price range'. I would consider 200$ to be way off. |

I would say if it loads/saves programs and you don't get load errors then it works... Last edited by tomcat666; 13 August 2009 at 09:44. |

lol. not at all. there are special software tools on pc that let you test the functionality of disk drive. (speed, performance, alignment). similar tools also existed on Amiga/Commodore. Thats without being an ass and saying that the drive will need 1 week testing in a lab (although that would be ideal considering the prices for some of these drives you see).
Just because a program loads, does not mean the internal drive is 100% healthy. But then nothing is 100% in life is it? have a great day. |

All the testing and alignment in the World won't count for zilch once it's been shipped.
Couriers or post take little heed of 'Fragile' warnings and some consider them a challenge.... |

My wife (who was my girlfriend at the time) had a sit-up board, which she bought from a mail-order catalogue "delivered" by a courier who dropped it over the 2m high back gate when there was nobody at home. It was thus damaged, and was returned with an explanation of why. She did not order a replacement and has not bought anything else from that company since. (Admittedly, this package was not marked as 'Fragile'. ) |

I know, tis daft some of the prices. I guess it can only be due to rarity factor that makes them so expensive. Sod paying that much tho - for that, two women, bar of soap

for those interested, you can get one of these 'kits' and fit in a A500 floppy drive, and voila ! you have a working 1581 !
Legend is that these 'kits' were a batch produced by commodore canada, who stripped them off drives because they were short on A500 drives. And after the liquidation of commodore somebody in north america got hold of them. I got one of those kits some years ago, well yes, they work, but I couldn't find anything useful to do with a 1581 so I sold it. This drive is not 1541 compatible, so don't dream of making 3.5 gaming disks or funny stuff like that (like I did). It's just a huge data storage if you have stuff to put on it. anyway, good luck with the sale. The price is not too bad after all. |
