I'm on WinUAE - but used to have all bells and whistles on my A4000 Mac emulation, tested and tried all video drivers, MMU and direct.

Ohhh thank You again Gentlemen !
Maxtransfer 0x1fe00 was the deal ! ... it works, but now it stops at the disk symbol (waiting for InstallMedia) .. do i need a real SCSI CD-Rom drive to install MacOS from CD, or will it also work with an "Alfa Data CD1200" ? greetings & thank you for helping ! |

you can try some of the hardfiles on the ftp.
they boot with shapeshifter (7.6 hardfiles tested). #1) MuEVD - is really good, but read the included guide about the installation and usage. Last edited by emufan; 13 March 2017 at 01:43. |

Not that I'm disagreeing with you, but what does the MuEVD driver do for anyone? Running Speedometer benchmark app it shows MuEVD is as I recall about 10% slower than the built-in P96/CGX driver. I sometimes run it, sometimes not, but is it more stable/faster in some operations/better in some way? CardtrickEVD seems to be the fastest but doesn't work for me when I have the mmu.library and Thor's 060.library running. Just asking for people's experiences with MuEVD vs the built in P96/CGX support.

drwhy talked about his a1200, so i did some test with standard aga gfx modes only.
MuEVD was more responsive than those default aga 256 color screens. CardtrickEVD is new to me, i'll have a look at this. |

Cardtrick is for RTG screens and is a Direct mode driver so there is no gfx conversion going on. The emulated mac puts the image directly into the frame buffer for maximum speed.
TurboEVD was a really good option when I only had an 040 and AGA. It uses a fast c2p so doesn't suffer from any artifacts or tearing like the refresh mode drivers. |

@grelbfarlk:
As emufan already suggested: Read the MuEVD.guide about the installation and usage. It should answer nearly all your questions. If you use mmu.library then MuEVD should be the best/fastes driver. For example it supports P96/CGX. |

Yes I guess I got confused, I use RTG but for MuEVD it doesn't seem to be any faster and a little bit slower than the built in P96/CGX in the one benchmark program I have on the Mac side. CardtrickEVD with the Piru's patch that restores Quickdraw support to Shapeshifter 3.11 is the fastest in my experience, under RTG.
I wasn't aware that MuEVD made big gains for AGA usage, so I guess that answers that. |

I checked and it's much worse than I remember. Running the benchmark "Speedometer" the MuEVD version scores about .560x the speed of a Quadra 605, while the built-in P96 driver scores 1.95x. Mainly because the last part of the graphics test the scrolling is very slow on the MuEVD. But in actual usage playing Syndicate for instance, the scrolling around the map is about the same with the built-in driver seeming maybe a bit better.
This is on a Mediator with a Voodoo 3. Maybe RTG just doesn't benefit as much from MuEVD as AGA does. |

... so ok ...
again thank you so fat for all the answers. Found the InstallerHardfile for MacOS 7.5 & 7.6 but the performance is very very poor. I´ve noticed that i am not able to add more than 127Kb of RAM to ShapeShifter 3.11, no matter which ROM i use! So i mean this is the reason for the poor performance. BasiliskII opens only in Window-mode & crashes every time while booting into setup-CD. Fusion 3.2 is the only Emulator so far for me, that works, but i can only emulate a Macintosh II (using a MacLC ROM ?!?) which has normally has a 68020 CPU & runs only at 16Mhz. When i try to emulate a Macitsosh IIfx with a 68030 CPU @ 40Mhz, I can run & install MacOS 7.6.1 from CD but than Fusion always stucks during booting at the "fourth" symbol. Which i don´t understand because i have a Blizzard 1230IV card and the CPU & FPU is shown in the Fusion-Startwindow correctly with 50 MHz. Found some posts in the web about Fusion 3.3 but can't find it to download. Is this fake ? greetings Last edited by drwhy; 26 March 2017 at 11:47. |

Try removing the Appleshare Extension to be able to boot 7.6.1 without issue.

The problem with using the IIfx ROM is that your Apple OS7.6.1 installer is not the "Universal Installer", so it is missing a bunch of resources that are required for 030/040 based machines.
Nearly all of Apple's system software was machine specific. When you got a Mac IIfx, you would have to order system software for a "Mac IIfx". That won't work on a Mac II, Quadra, etc. Only the "Universal Installer" version works on all Mac models. Apple made machine specific versions to reduce disk space (these were all on floppy originally) and to reduce piracy (Quadra owners couldn't share their system software with Mac IIci, Performa, etc. machines). |

... hmmm ... i think i got a 7.6.1 Universal-Installer img.
Now ... what about the performance ? Are there any benchmark test for mac os 7 available ? I´ve just checked the startup time of some of my applications: PhotoShop 4: 1min, Word & Excel: 15-20 sec ist this normal ? |
