Amiga 1200 floppy drive head not moving

Hi all
Have recently brought a amiga 1200 but will not read discs I have opened it up and the disc spins but the head is not moving to read the disc.
If I push the head fully to the end and power up it moves back to the top but will not move forward itself.
Any help would be appreciated.

I wouldn't bother trying to fix it, either get a replacement or a Gotek USB drive, both can be purchased here..........

Provide some more details about how it is connected. Some pictures would help a lot.

Check the power and data cables are connected OK.

You can also use Amiga Test Kit (ATK) to test the drive.

It sounds like it could be issue with the track zero / head home sensor. Without it, the head will always try to move towards the end, before (hopefully) giving up when the sensor isn't triggered for a few seconds. This could be a drive problem, a CIA problem, or an issue somewhere in between. Unfortunately, if it is the sensor itself that's faulty, replacing it isn't simply sticking a new sensor in, as that sensor is usually adjustable and has to be carefully calibrated for the drive to work correctly.

Some more trolling: if you have a hard drive, don't bother: use whdload installed games.

Else, buy a IDE CF card reader + CF card (not amiga specific & cheap) and use whdload installed games...

Floppies was useful to exchange data with a 720Kb PC floppy, but now PC don't have floppies, and USB floppies don't to double density (I have tried!).
