A1200 mouse port
Evening, all...
I'm having a bit of trouble with the mouse port on an A1200 I liberated from eBay last week. It appears that some overaffectionate mouse or joystick has, in the past, prised five whole pins from the socket, and my best attempts to replace the pins with parts from generic serial port assemblies have failed miserably (not long enough, by the looks of things, although the ribbon-cable now looks as if it's been mauled by a kodiak bear, so I'll probably never know). Essentially, then, I'm on the lookout for a 9-pin serial interface with a ribbon-pin and clippy back (for want of a better technical term) so that I can get the mouse to the header. This is proving difficult, as all the component shops I've tried here in the UK have multitudes of right-angle or solder-cup-terminated 9-pin serial ports and I'd rather not give myself even more opportunity to mess things up. Can anyone point me towards somewhere that would sell this 9-pin ribbon > serial connector as an Amiga spare part, or even as a generic equivalent designed for some other purpose? Homebrew suggestions that I haven't thought of yet would be welcome too, as long as they don't require *really* tricky soldering jobs (Out of interest, with pins 3,6,7,8 and 9 working, the cursor in WB3.1 wobbles around a bit and only the right mouse button works. Everything else in the A1200 seems to work fine, including the soldered Game2 port.) Any help would be much appreciated - cheers |

Oh - needless to say, if someone in the UK wants to sell me one, I'd gladly pay...

Scour dumpsters for any Wintel made with a pre-ATX case. From that you should be able to get a DB-9 to 9-pin header cable quite easily.

After salvaging and ruining a couple of 9-pin shells, I found a good, reusable crimp socket that's done the job perfectly.
Thanks for the help, anyway |
