Didn't know amiga had the muscle to play back fmv? And indeed support avi file format!
I would guess Fairlight 242 was the limit, maybe an fmv cart on cd32... Interesting |

@turrican 3
RiVA and Frogger spring to mind, oh, and MooVid. You'll need a grunty machine to play them back though. RTG recommended. @Djay Amiga had FMV from early on (CDTV era). Just not the same compression formats as other machines (CDXL I think it was called, Alien breed tower assault and worms used it). It was less compressed than later standards, but ran well on a 68000. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CDXL Last edited by khph_re; 03 May 2011 at 19:22. |

Proper AVI files will run pretty poorly if they are at any great resolution. Too heavily compressed. Even an 060 would struggle with a bigun'. Been a while since I tested on my 030, but I think RiVA was faster, but still not great.
These days with HDD space being plentifull, I expect A big fat CDXL file would very look nice, but take up acres of space. A basic CD-32 (or A1200) could do 3/4 screen playback in HAM8 at about 12fps on a 300k CD-ROM. Dunno what a faster machine playing from HardDrive could do, would be nice to see though! Me too. The more things change the more they stay the same!
It's always cool seeing decent video running on the Amiga though |

FFPlay is the best video player to use on WinUAE.
It is installed in C: by NetSurf. A newer version with a GUI is here: http://aminet.net/search?query=ffmpeg-git |

Longplayer

One of the first things I did when getting my ppc card was checking out fullscreens avi's and mpegs. Finaly video on my Amiga Started out with IsisPPC for fullscreen vcd, and then onto Amp and frogger when Bvision arrived for full screen full color vcd movie playback. Moovid and action wasnt bad for avi playback on 68k if you had at least on 040. A few test videos on the os39 cd as i recall.

As a workround you may try to use "Run" before FFplay with multimedia filetypes (works for the user who reported the problem to me): {AmigaDOS} Run >NIL: C:FFplay {f} I did a search of the error message and found this: "Programs that use the ixemul.library can often fail with a return code of 161, (this is a bug in ixemul.library startup code)." and http://www.morphzone.org/modules/new...rder=&start=40 so seems like a bug is in the ixemul.lib. |
