It's a Knockout! 2017/18: Qualifying Round - Formula One Grand Prix

It's a Knockout! 2017/18: Qualifying Round - Formula One Grand Prix

Starts: 00:01 November 26 Finishes: 23:59 December 9

Rules

Rules are available here. Super League rules are here.

Post a picture of your score here with the score written underneath. Enter as often as you like.

Players must use the compo hack, either the Exe, or optionally use the WHD or ADFs provided.

We will be playing Practice Mode and posting your best lap times. We are playing Interlagos and Estoril tracks in Rookie Mode, Q Tyres, any setup. Add your total times and convert to seconds for your score.

Tied scores will be separated by whoever submitted their score first.

No cheating (including save states) - anyone caught cheating gets disqualified.

Here's how the qualifying system works:

Between 9-13 people enter: 8 people qualify.
Between 14-17 people enter: 12 people qualify.
18+ people enter: 16 people qualify.

Remember you have to enter this round to have any chance of playing later on - but please only enter if you feel you will be able to commit to playing the full tournament (this is important, too many people who qualify and then don't take part in the later rounds which spoils the competition).

Have fun and feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Downloads

- Disk 1 (Compo), Disk 2 (Compo), Disk 3, Disk 4
- Manual, Code Words Only (for ADFs above)
- WHDLoad-installed
- Compo .exe only (use a backup of your original Disk 2 folks, we will not be held responsible etc etc)

Extras

- Lemon thread
- Super League Round 12 threads: EAB, Lemon

Please bear in mind I know nothing about this game so I think I have the game mode stuff correct. I'm sure Lifeschool or John will clarify if I have got something wrong though.

I have assumed we're using the same version of the game as last time, in which case if you're looking to play on a stock A5/600 then you're better off PMing Dan for a version that can run at a better speed on your machine.

Since we're playing only timed laps we can use the 25fps-version which differs from the 16fps-version we've used in the league.

@lifeschool: Can you please provide these?

John, perhaps its best to be careful about this. As the 25FPS version may have timing differences with the 8fps and the 16fps versions; which can only be detectable at the top level; I dont want to take a risk that some players are finding this to be an advantage e.g. playing the 25fps version on an A500 to get the slowest game. The 16fps version works on the most Amiga setups, and contains the edits I made for this compo, including the new cockpit, so we can see everyone is using the same version. Where possible, I think its always best if we all play the same version.

Nobody requested an 8 FPS version in the league, which would be perhaps just as well, as it would be best if we could all use the 16 FPS version.

I'll update the ADFs in a short while, after my landlord has finished inspecting the property to auction it off.

Okay, that's fine. Seems smoother than 16fps to me anyway (with cycle exact 68020-emulation).

Is it hacked by you to allow Q tyres in practice mode?

All links on the Lemon side are now working, so someone can copy them over.

With lost of top drivers around, it may be quite difficult to stay out of the drop zone.

@ John, I made sure Q tyres are available to be selected. In the rules here it says Choose Qualify, and I anticipated this, and ramped up Qualy time to 2 Hours instead of 15 mins. I was assuming we would play this like the old Lemon compo, where we play Practice mode; the difference being the Practice doesnt have any cars on the track. So I'd suggest this is the better way to go. I think Practice also has unlimited time. So if you agree, maybe update the rules with this, it would make things clearer.

Definitely. Although the cars are mostly a hindrance in Qualifying they might also give an unfair advantage when someone gets lucky with slipstream.

@Graham: Please change "Qualifying" to "Practice" in the description.

It seems the provided WHDLoad version is not the same as the disk version?

WHDLoad version doesn't let me select Q tyres in Practice mode like the disk version.

Works fine for me. The link to the WHDLoad version has been updated with lifeschool's patched version. Just download again.

A real shame we aren't use 25fps mode.. but I do understand why.
Maybe before the next F1GP round, we could do some proper testing to determine whether the framerate has any real effect on times, (looks like it doesn't so far).

After several attempts! Interlagos is my favourite track, but didn't quite get decent lap.

Getting close to the official world records now.

These are:

Interlagos: 1:09.291
Estoril: 1:08.679

Both are from akabei (2nd and 3rd best times were from Senna and Schumacher IIRC).
