Recapping A500 + Light Brick PSU
I was thinking of recapping my A500 & PSU.
I assume the A500 does not use very low ESR caps, so I was thinking of Panasonic FC series. For the PSU, also Panasonic but FK series, little lower ESR. Any thoughts ? |

I recommend you that you replace the caps by ones made by the best manufacturers
like chemicon,rubycon,mallory,nichicon cause capacitors bundlde on Amiga PSU were made by bad manufacturers like capxon that bad caps lost capacitance in short time |

@Marty
Slighly higher voltage and heat rated components are a good idea - personally I like good quality panosonic caps for my work. |

Panasonic seem to make quite decent caps, I don't use them often but they've given me no issues.

Where can I find a good step by step video about A500 recapping using a solder iron with temperature control ?

I would suggest you practice on something else if you haven't replaced capacitors before. There are plenty of videos available on the replacement of through-hole components - try it on an old stereo or something first to make sure you have it down before risking your Amiga. There isn't anything special about the A500 technique-wise.
The 500 board is far sturdier than the 600 & 1200 that followed it, but it's still possible to damage tracks and solder pads if you don't know what you're doing. |

Be gentle but confident. Like a good lover. This takes practice. Use a low temperature iron, it's old lead solder. Old bits of scrap to practice on. Lead solder is a bit tricky to find. But it's very beginner friendly compared to the non-lead stuff. If you get really stuck, see if there is a Makerspace, Hackerspace or Fablab close to you. They should have equipment that can help. |

hi guys, thanks for your tips; sure I'll try first in other hardware, but where can I find a very good video guide to learn to desolder and solder correctly caps with rheophores ? (same as A500's)
