Blizzard 1230 stops A1200 booting

Hi all.

Managed to get hold of a Blizzard Mk IV 1230/50 with 32MB ram. It was sold as working.

However, installing it into my A1200 causes the A1200 to not work at all. With the accelerator installed, it switches on, but the Power light never reaches full intensity. It just hangs there, with nothing on the screen.

Removing the accelerator, returns my miggy back to normal.

Has anyone seen this before? The blizzards are just plug and play right? I dont need to do anything special to get them to work? Could this be a power supply issue? I am still running my original A1200 PSU.

Cheers in advance!

You could try it with an A500 PSU. Nothing special is needed normally, you just plug it in and go.

It could well be a power issue i.e your PSU might not be strong enough to drive the Amiga and the Blizzard.

It could be that not enough power getting through due to the blizzard due to bad contact. Try cleaning the contacts on the motherboard with alcohol solution.

If that fails to help and another power supply then if you can confirm the blizzard is ok in another A1200

All the best

Steve.

Disconnect any harddrives/CD-drives that uses much power and see if the A1200 starts with the Blizzard connected.

I prefer IPA (= isopropanol = isopropyl alcohol = rubbing alcohol) as it don't left any kind of residues. But ordinary alcohol is fine.

Use a damped cloth (that don't loose fibres) and let it board dry for half an hour before trying again.

But I bet good money that your problem is a weak power supply.

I prefer acetone based break cleaner spray. It really gets rid of grease, yet evaporates quickly. :-)

It is left on the cloth / paper tissue that you use for cleaning.

Bingo! That worked.

I disconnected my cf ide drive and rebooted. I don't know if it was power related, as I would imagine the cf drive wouldn't be the most power hungry component. Regardless. It worked. I got to the amiga loader screen.

I then re-connected the drive and booted it up and now both work together.

Thanks everyone. I am now the proud owner of a 6030/50 a1200. Only took 18 years to get this far.

Hiya,

First thing you should do is setup BlizKick on your system.....you should get a nice speed boost in WB if you do it properly.

I got my Blizzard 030 tuned up enough to run a 1024x768 WB in 64 colors at a good speed after a bit of work.
