It is a shame really. They released it long after the first one, the Amiga was an abandoned platform and the game is simply incomplete. It looks like a beta! Maybe they had a Chaos Engine 2 project in late beta status and had to release it the way it was, or they realized the Amiga was not totally dead *yet* but again hesitated to work on a grand project like Chaos 1. In any case, they should have left CE the way it was rather than using it's name's value

I agree, Chaos 2 was a big shame....
Chaos Engine 1 is by far my fav Bitmap Brothers game... and I think Xenon 2 is very overrated... it's just an above average shmup. Xenon 1 on 16 bit machines isn't too good too, but 8 bits versions are great. |

to the best of my knowledge, Chaos Engine 2, was designed for the Megadrive first, because of the lack of piracy, Renegade made more money from the Megadrive/SNES version of CE 1 than the Amiga version...
the Amiga version was direct port of the Megadrive version, thus, CE2, had been rushed out for the Megadrive and suffered lots of missing features, about this time, the games industry was taking off big-style and publishers gave design teams/coders less time to come up with the goods, just like they do today!!! Please correct this posting if any of it is wrong, this is all based on a fairly bad memory |

Well if CE1 was a direct port to the Amiga I say good work to the guys who did it. I tried the SNES version of the game and found it ounces more sluggish to control than the Amiga version.

Is there even a thing as a super super mod? And why haven't you split out this whole mod thing to another thread?

There were lots of great Amiga developers, but yes, the Bitmap Brothers were my favourites too.
I love Chaos Engine, even though I'm still stuck on the last level Speedball 2 was glorious-probably the only sports game I ever enjoyed on my Amiga. But my fav Bitmap Bros. game is...well, I'll leave that up to you to decide. Too bad Speedball 2100 was such a massive flop...but then again, could its predecessor ever be improved upon? I don't know... |
