Amiga OS 3.9 and FS-UAE

Hi, now i dont know if this is an fs-uae problem in the settings or if it is standard amiga os stuff but I will try anyway

I have installed Amiga OS 3.9 with picasso in fs-uae and everything seems to work fine except (and i do not know if this is how the amiga os was back in the day) the desktop has scroll bars. I have set 1024x768x32 and it sets fine except the desktop scrolls. ie. I have to scroll down to see the trashcan. Is this the norm or do i have to find a little setting somewhere either in workbench or fs-uae that will show the whole desktop?

Any old school boffins to help?

Many thanks

Please look as the Screenmode prefs have set to default values in height and width. If there bigger valaues, the Workbench screen may have scroll bars...

without any windows open (and left click on a blank spot on the desktop just to make sure no other window is selected), you need to hold rmb and go to the very top left of the screen, and let go on "Backdrop"

then rmb again > window > snapshot > snapshot all

and it will remember next time you boot

most of the missing files and weirdness from a fresh 3.9 installation can be resolved by installing "BoingBags". BoingBag 1 corrects cockups that were made with the first release of OS3.9. You can get them here:

http://os.amigaworld.de/index.php?lang=en&page=12

once you've installed BB1, do a cold reboot (which is restart [not reset] under the uae F12 window, then install BB2. This should correct most issues.

Going further than BB2 though requires a little more knowledge. Best to just get things working first and get yourself accustomed to it before making more extensive changes

try this. you'll need to run it from the cli (rmb in top left again > execute command, in dialogue type cli and press ok.

just put the boingbag and lha.run into the same folder.

cd to it as you would with windows dos prompt.

lha x BoingBag39-1.lha ram:

and go look in your ram drawer

edit, WHOOPS! forgot to add the link to LHA:

IIRC, the Amiga OS 3.9 UnArc program is broken, and that's what causing this error.

Download LHARun for Aminet, and use that to extract the BoingBag 1 archive. Installing the BoingBag 1 Update should fix the UnArc program.

Edit: Beaten to the post by Diablothe2nd!

have you got other windows open that are hiding it? you can cycle through windows by clicking the double square button in the top right of the window.

execute command pops up a dialogue which you type "cli" into without quotes, or just navigate to System drawer where you installed OS3.9 and double click the Shell icon there

where did you put bb1 and lha.run?

actually lets make this easier, as you'll only be deleting the files once installed anyway.

copy lha.run and bb1.lha to your ram folder and close the ram folder window.

in the cli type:

ram:lha x ram:BoingBag39-1.lha ram:

press return. a load of text will scroll up the screen. when it stops, open your ram folder again, rmb >window > show > show all, and you should see a folder called boingbag. in that will be the installer you can double click

actually thinking about it, the command MIGHT be:

run ram:lha.run x ram:BoingBag39-1.lha ram:

try that if my previous one didn't work

ok moved them to ram drawer, all there. i open the cli and enter the line exactly as you put with .run after the first ram:lha(.run) it errors out if i dont have the .run and it loads the lhasfx program (c) Stefan somebody or another then it says
Filename.run -? for help then i get operation successful but there is no folder in my ram drawer :/

Edit tried it also with your second command same thing

AHA! my apologies. it appears Lha.run is a self extracting archive.

just type RAM:lha.run and hit enter

THEN you should be able to use:

ram:lha_68k x ram:BoingBag39-1.lha ram:

EDIT - damn, there's so much ramming and boinging coming from this thread, people will start raising eyebrows
