Really? Its the "look, there is this evil mastermind that wants to destroy the world, go get him" kind of deal isn't it?
Perhaps there was a booklet bundled with the game that gave more back story, unfortunately I never owned an original of this gem. |

Die Kathedrale. You only get small hints at the start what's actually going on and then you have to explore the place thoroughly to discover the bits that make the story. Too bad this was never translated to English, as it's really a good text-adventure.

@the red 'story'
A friend of mine and my humble self played it on the C64 nearly every day during the autumn vacations. We saw that one quite often (), so it's burnt in my mind |

Yes Another World does a great job such is it's mystery- it really is key to why games feel fairly souless today
Flashback also has a story or rather a story told through adventure.Most games really i guess even occasionally the more minimal of games like the Atari 2600 manage this like Indiana Jones The Pawn, Guild of Thieves, Living on Borrowed time all do an excellent job too |

One of the greatest introductions ever had Captive II: Liberation. But I don't want to turn this thread to "Best game intros" topic. Just think that the story about rebelling droids is very well written.
I also like Beneath a steel sky story. It was drawn in the comic book, included in the game package. |

Flight of the Amazon Queen had a cool story also. It plays like an interactive movie, like the Indy adventure games.
