New member! Emulator question!
Hi everyone - I just discovered this site last night. I was SUCH an Amiga fan in the 1990's - I got an A600 in 1993, and when I was supposed to be planning for my future and my exams in my last year of school, I was gaming every night - hahaha - all the memories, the sentimentality - WOW.
I downloaded an emulator from Amiga Forever onto my PC (Windows XP) and have also managed to find ADF files and unzip them. I've been having a few problems, but this site's FAQ section has already helped be out GREATLY with WinUAE by telling me how to swap disks when prompted, and also, how to make saves of games. Thanks! But one problem remains - most games will load up, but I can't find the keys to play them. I've pressed every single key on the keyboard and nothing happens. I know this is a stupid question - do you actually need a joystick? I've noticed the games that remain on the intro screens are the same ones I used to play on the old joystick - the mouse games work fine. Or is there a way to create keyboard shortcuts for 'left' and 'right' and 'jump' and 'fire'? Hope someone can help me with this. If I do need to get a joystick, I've got no idea where to get a compatible one from. Cheers |

Go to the 'Game ports' panel and choose one of the keyboard layouts for 'Port 1' (Keyboard Layout A should already be in there). Maybe you could give an example game that doesn't start. So a joystick/pad isn't a must, but surely a nice to have

You don't need a compatible Amiga joystick. A USB PC gamepad can be used with WinUAE.

If you're using Amiga Forever 2008 or 2009, you can just click on the keyboard icon on the bottom-left of the player, even easier!

Thanks for the advice guys - I've got it working!
TheCyberDruid was spot on - Port 1 wasn't set at anything, and you can choose Keyboard Layouts from there. I've just been playing Dyna Blaster, Q-Bic, and Ruff 'n' Tumble (all games that my friend had, but I never did) Great memories! This will be eating up my time for weeks now! |
