out of box spec for A1200? + other ??
HI
What is the standard out of box spec for an Amiga 1200, I know the hard drives are all different sizes but how much memory should a computer have? I booted one I brought off ebay with floppys to workbench ( as they ripped the hard disk out!) and it says theres only 2mb memory I thought it should have more than that or is that only with an accelerator card?? Also can I get a 800mb hard drive out of old laptop and plug it straight into my a1200 machine, boot to workbench with floppy and it will recognise the drive to format or is there more to it? any help or advice appreciated. Thanks T |

Sorry. Standard Amiga 1200 has only (?!?!?) 2MB Chip RAM thats 1MB more than other "smaller" Amiga's so be proud . You can upgrade it by putting some memory expansion/accelerator card into the expansion slot (...with some more RAM that is ).

Im planning on getting a hard drive, cd rom drive and expansion card soon but wanted to make sure the machine was sound first. Any help with the hard drive question? thanks again, I love it here!!! T |

Oh, the HD... i haven't seen that
Assuming it's a 3,5" drive, and you do have the right cable thing, it should work perfectlly. You have to boot from floppy, use a program called [HDToolBox] to partition the drive, save changes and reboot. One more floppy boot, format the HD copy all files from flopps and voila! PS: If i missed something, please correct me i did it only once some time ago... |

laptop hard disks are 2.5" - assuming theres a caddy in the a1200 (you may have to buy one) , and you have a cable for it, you can plug it up straight away
