Hope we see a bit more EAB activity this round. Thankfully this quite a bit nicer to play than R-Type 2.

WHDLoad version won't work for me (A1200 030 32Mb). I get this error:
Code:
Function 'resload_abort' called
with unacceptable arguments
SSP=$7FFFC PC=$5
I've tried NOCACHE, NOAUTOVEC & NO VBRMOVE, as well as commenting out the custom tooltypes with no joy. Any ideas?

p.s. the Lemon link to the WHD version 404's

I'm using WHDload version 16.2, Ks 3.0, with NOCACHES and NOMMU. Tested as working on 030, 040 and 060. I'd suggest it's simply your version of WHDLoad which is the problem as SW is an oldish crack it was designed to work on older WHDLoad EXEs.

Bit of a schoolboy error to miss that out in the rules - helicopter for this one (and playing with the jeep would probably be murderously difficult anyway).

As for the WHD version not working... it's strange but I'm using 17.0 and the game works perfectly on my '040. Will check if I'm using any tooltypes later...

Errr... Biscuit currently has 3rd and 4th place... with the same score!

I agree that playing as the Jeep would be murderously difficult... I accidentally started playing as the jeep and it was difficult. Playing as the Heli is much easier and much more fun

Edit:

Is there a significance to the helicopters in the background (the really tiny ones) flying from left to right?

Also, does anyone else find that it becomes really hard after dieing and losing the weapon upgrade (double shot)?

My current score is only good for 5th (errr.. 4th after Biscuits double entry is corrected ) so I'm gonna hold of posting the picture for now. It's now good enough for now...

Highscore sorting seems to be broken, I get always an entry at top, even if the score is lower than the previous top score.

I find the patterns in which the enemies come harder to memorize than on R-Type 2, because the background feels so uniform.

Some of the enemies (some of the ones that drop down from the top of the screen) are actually random. All the others are always the same.

An amazing run (with only 1 life left) saw me go from level 5 to the end boss of level 7!

An awesome run saw me lose my first life on level 7, but then I lost 3 more and only just made it through to level 8 where I died a few seconds later.

I think you can blow them up and get points from them if you collect 2 shields, that make everything on the screen blow up, or you shoot the shield until it blows up causing nearly everything on the screen to blow up.

Yes, you are correct. It's vital to destroy them to speed up the appearance of the next goose (big ship that drops bonuses when destroyed).
Milking of the missiles from the ground based launches is also vital - in some cases you can get 2 gooses on the first level (though the 2nd one appears just before the boss appears... so you may lose bonus points by taking longer to destroy the boss).

Welcome (belatedly) to the competition

In future could you please post a new reply for each score you get as otherwise edits tend to get missed (lucky my internet access at home isn't working at the minute ).

(Oh and if anyone needs to contact me, I probably won't be around much until the 20th due to technical issues, unfortunately.)

Well we haven't finished yet so there's still a few days for it to change but if you look at the latest standings in the first post, the average for each board is at the bottom (top five players from each board only). So we need a big improvement collectively. Anyway we've already been completely hammered this year

I agree that it looks like EAB will be hammered again. I haven't played it much over the last few days, but intend to have a blast at it on Friday & Saturday.

It's more than a little irritating when you get further in the game but score 50k less. Looks like I'm going to have to write this round off now sadly, seeing as I probably won't have time to play today.

On that note... last day of the round folks! Get those scores in. Please.

Not quite... I believe Harry's last score put's him in 6th, demoting me to 7th, as it was posted at 21:58.

Edit:

I see that you updated the results and standings thread correctly, but at this time the scores in this thread still need the tweak I mentioned above
