[Found: Thunder Zone / Desert Assault] Looking for an arcade game - a commando clone

the game I used to play was an advanced commando clone. It was next to that asterix game. there where two machines and 4 player could play at the same time. When you picked up weapons it would speak the name of weapons. bazooka, laser, etc...

At the last level you were on a plane and you slowly destroyed parts of the plane and at last fell to the sea. In the game end animation the guys were running away from a whale swimming.

Hmmm, I should know this one though at the moment the name is floating around in my head somewhere...

Let me think about it today. Any more info that you can provide will probably might help speed up the process

Sounds cool!
Only Ikari Warriors spring to me mind, but you could "only" play 2 guys at the same time :/

I was thinking that as well or maybe:

... Caliber 50
... Heavy Barrel
... Midnight Resistance
... Shock Troopers
... Shock Troopers - 2nd Squad

but they are also only 2 player games

It might be Mercs. But I'm not sure. The graphx are similar quality though.

if you mean an arcade conversion you may be right but this is for sure the best commando clone (i mean chaos engine and canon fodder ARE NOT commando clones) i remember on amiga.

Well he "did" mention Arcade Game, and my first thought was Heavy Barrel as DamienD said

.. It had great controllers too that were 8 way hexagonal, so you could spin your player around, and i can remember it yelling out HEEEAAAAVY BARREEEEL !!!!!.. when you got the big gun!

It was a wonderful game i used to play at my local Milk Bar along with Rolling Thunder, P47, Roadblasters, Twin Cobra & some other game that was a Barbarian style one on one sword fight type game that had you pitted against mythological creatures for which one was like a snake bodied type thing!?.

Anyway, the reason why we are here is the Commando style shooter.. sorry for my rant .. haha.

You could also try doing a search in the Arcade History database for "Shooter".

The only problem is that the search will include platformers, shoot 'em ups etc as well. They should really break it up into more sub genres
