This thread is saying OS3.5 or greater, the aminet readme is saying 3.0 or greater
AmigaOS 3.5+ comes with Reaction and should work. AmigaOS 3.0-3.1 with ClassAct installed from Aminet may or may not work.

From the renderlib31.lha archive:

render.library_68020 (does not appear to use the FPU)
render.library_68040 (uses the FPU)
render.library_68060 (uses the FPU)

Probably. The render.library_68020 should work on your Amiga. Rename to render.library and copy to LIBS: to give it a try.

I don't know what they have done to the render.library but you probably don't need it. You may want it if they have fixed bugs and retained 68020 ISA compatibility though.

You should try to beta from Chris site, it is much better than one in aminet.net.

http://cy2.uk/netsurfos3

It does require render and guigfx libraries. Render library for 68020 works with 68030. There is nofpu version for guigfx library. Readme doesn't mention a 68030 http://aminet.net/package/dev/misc/guigfxlib_nofpu

It is bad and confusing idea to mix Arti's version to this thread. Artis version works with emulated amigas, it has about half an speed with real amigas, compared to Netsurf. Netsurf has some compromises wich has usefull with real amigas, but not with emulated "super amigas". Though most of them can be changed editing choises file.

Arti's Netsurf has also unsupported to Netsurf dev team. Chris' Netsurf is supported.

My main objections are continued infringement of the GPL by the people
responsible (mainly in the not distributing sources wherever binaries
are held. While they have an SVN server on Sourceforge, it contains no
checkins since August, and most of them lack log messages, and Aminet
only has source packages six months out of date compared to the binary
copies.

Secondly is their use of the NetSurf name. Their port is essentially a
fork, and they have repeatedly refused to accept our advice
(specially about the approach they have taken in using a debug
convenience feature to build their product with) and produced patches
that are unmergable. I fear that any problems their port has may cause
fingers to be unfairly pointed at us, giving us a bad name unduly and
possibly increasing support load. What makes this doubly insulting is
them asking for donations to support their port.

They have also continually pestered Vince privately via email, despite
repeated pleas for them to cease to do so.
What I would like to see:
1) For them to mandate a system of development that guarentees
that the source for any binaries they release is available
from the same location the binaries are (I'm looking at you,
Aminet.)
Quote:
binary 2016-12-23 sources 2014-09-20
2) For them to change the name of the browser to something
other than NetSurf, and for them to state clearly in their
documentation and help that it is completely unsupported by
and unrelated to the NetSurf Project.
3) Use the mailing list for what it is meant for, and not email
developers directly.

Many thanks for the replies,

I still confess that I remain slightly confused. The text that you posted utri007, and thanks for digging it out, relates to a thread that was posted back in 2010 and having read it seems to suggest that the devs of the OS 3.x 68k version and the devs of the main OS4.x version might be heading towards some kind of agreement.

I cannot find any info on whether this happened or not, however the 68k version is not available for download on the main Netsurf site so I'm guessing not (?).

Also the link - http://cy2.uk/netsurfos3 is just to the app (fare enough) however in a previous post you mentioned that this was for OS3.5+ and I only have 3.0/3.1. Also I cannot find Chris' actual site - at that url. http://cy2.uk/ which I would expect to be a home page - or blocked has just this

Code:

cy2.uk (demeter)
public server

bedford weather
intranet
Which makes my slightly concerned as to the viability of the downloaded app. Why isn't there anything like - "This is the supported 68k version of Netsurf"; "For more information look here"; "For docs look here.." kind of stuff?

Anyway I put my detective hat on and went searching... I think that 'Chris' the same Chris who is active on Amiga.org and has the Unsatisfactory software webpage? The site mentions the Bedford Weather link. There is a 68k version of Netsurf for download here - but it requires OS3.5+

Of the 2 links you kindly posted AMIGASYSTEM the
http://aminet.net/package/comm/www/netsurf_os3
Is the 3.5+ version
http://aminet.net/package/comm/www/NetSurf-m68k
Is the 3.0+ version however this is I believe the unsupported version and part of the issue that utri007 posted. <sigh>

I guess that if I want to try out Netsurf my only option is the unsupported version, I do wish selecting Amiga software was simpler. I really don't like this 'it might work give it a go' situation all the time.

Sorry if this thread is only for the OS3.5+ version but it is very confusing for someone to try and find the right Software.

Chris has ported Amiga OS4 and Amiga OS3.5/9 versions of Netsurf. His code is merged directly to Netsurf source tree. Thats why he doesn't need to worry about releasing sources with binary. Supported means in this case, that it can compile against official Netsurf source tree and if you have problems with compiling/modifying sources or you found bug you can put it offical bug tracker.

http://www.unsatisfactorysoftware.co...php?pg=netsurf

Note that Netsurf is not originally Amiga app. It's origin is from RiscOS.

I wouldn't say that something works, if I haven't personally tested it. So "give it try" comes because I don't know will guigfx nofpu version work or not.

By the way, you can always compile Netsurf with latest sources your own easy way, with DNA DNL netscript. https://github.com/DNADNL/NetScript It downloads latest sources and compiles them automatically.

Arthur has all the rights to call his browser Netsurf. Netsurf is not a registered trademark.

It doesn't work without FPU with UAE from year 2014, but with current versions it works. So when Vampire gets more mature or FPU.

Wanted to try the beta posted here. Is Chris using an archiver that is too new for the AmigaOS? Looks like the latest version of lzx I have is saying it uses an unknown compression. I could be behind the times, though. The version of lzx I have is v1.21r for '030 processors. Tried my copy of lha also. Fortunately, I was able to extract it under Windows.
