Better late than never Prowler - welcome aboard

I'm glad you enjoyed it. Luck does play its part for sure. Sometimes the fruit seems to appear right in your path nicely but other times it seems everything's going against you and you can plough through eight or nine levels without collecting a significant amount of fruit. Pretty sure though you will beat that scores fairly comfortably within a few more goes

Thanks for the welcome and the encouraging words, Graham.

I know that you're looking to bolster the EAB team for this competition and I promise to do what I can to help when I get time. This seemed like an ideal opportunity to get started in the competitions as all you seem to need is a good instinct and some practice to master this game (in my first few tries, I was lucky to get into double figures ) so there's no need for complicated instructions. No wonder the Retro Gamer guys enjoyed it!

My Quickshot joystick was a bit stiff to start with, but it's loosening up nicely now.

How would difficulty settings work? Shorter levels with fruit worth less than normal (e.g. level numberx100x0.5).

Thanks for the kind words! Yes, after last season where there were only about five of us competing regularly on EAB, I think we've done a lot better this year already and the more the merrier. I would encourage as many people as possible to take the plunge when they can I am sure you will enjoy taking part when you get the opportunity, it is certainly competitive but played in a good spirit too.

Well, I beat my previous hi score this time, but not by much. Still, I am getting better at it...

Will have another go tomorrow.

I can't imagine that this game would be better with a pad, so I'll stick with the joystick for now. What are other players using, if you don't mind me asking?

Wico bat handle joystick and A500. I had to wash a load of clothes and managed to squeeze in a few more games. I'm testing a new strategy. Wait until the last possible second before grabbing the coveted sneakers. In the past, getting them too soon caused the time to elapse on short platforms before they could be of much use.

By delaying pickup, valuable time is added at the other end in case unseen long platforms scroll up. Two back to back scores of 30,000+ but still yet to reach my max.

Luvvit.

I'm using a hornby turbo touch 360 pad. It's a very quite pad, great for late night sessions.

The screen continued to scroll even after I'd finished

Yeah, can't imagine using pad either. Konix Speedking, the joystick of course!

Logitech X3D PRO on Winuae-PC, super smooth but I feel a little more precision with the keyboard.

Im not sure, maybe just give it 2 options if its easier to implement, expert:no extra lives and normal.

I'm just using the d-pad on a cheap imitation ps3 controller.
I'd prefer to use one of my wico joysticks but need a decent usb adapter first

Yes there is. I'm working on something new, albeit quite slowly. It won't be a compo-suitable game though so next year's PD round is safe I will post some news when I feel it is at a presentable stage.

In my third session earlier this evening I beat my previous hi score twice but, alas, not by much.

I hope I haven't reached my ceiling. This game is so damned addictive that I was actually wondering whether I could play it while eating my dinner / browsing the internet!

That would be easier to implement, but it's not my call. It is Graham's game after all, not mine (though I am slowly working on my own game...)

I'm sure you're right about the sticks being better. I rarely use anything but the joypad for general use and I don't like it for anything which requires diagonals.
But my near silent pad is good when teething baby is sleeping nearby.
Left and right is ok though; except each time I died tonight was because I didn't leave the platform and got squashed

That happened to me too! I was playing the game, died, but my vision kept on scrolling even as I tried to enter my name into the hi score table. Pretty trippy. Like coming off a fast fairground ride or something. This only happened to me the once - but I must have been pretty into it.
