PFS3 is definitely the best choice, includes excellent tools, on the real Amiga I have always used PFS, but I must say that SFS is also a good alternative I use it and I have never had problems.

I hate to split hairs here, but can we please call it 3.1.4? 3.14 is not the correct version. It’s a furtherance of 3.1, not a furtherance of 3.x.

I am not an AmigaOS 3.1.4 user so I am wondering did they fix any of the performance issues of FFS in 3.1.4?
PFS3 and SFS offer a huge performance increase over FFS from 3.1 |

Yes, PFS and SFS especially offer more guarantees, rare invalidated HardDisk, deleted file recovery and much more.

Unfortunately, PFS still has issues. For example, we had seen here cases where recursively deleting a directory from PFS caused a "object is in use" error, even though no lock was held on any object in the directory. The problem here seems to be that PFS does not delete objects immediately, but rather moves them around, but then as soon as "delete" attempts to delete the parent directory of such an object, barks, at least until the move is complete.

I am 100% PFS3 (newest version) filesystem supporter until death takes me! Any new update of pfs3 I will simply backup all my files and then format the hard drive with the new pfs3 and repeat cycle. That is how I function - sniff -
@Thomas Richter OOH! IS THAT WHY everytime I delete a folder I get that annoying it still lingers there and it is in USE error message until later for it to disappear? Pfft that is trivial compared to what I am getting in return. I can handle such annoyance - grin - |

When it comes to the ffs in 3.14.I know long file names has been added but don't know of any other improvements. When it comes to the sfs vs pfs3-aio debate i usually use pfs3-aio. But that because it was highly recommended by users. And toni seem to be keeping it up to date and fixing bugs. In the past i heard of ffs and sfs horror stories.none the less it look like pfs3-aio is the overall winner. Last edited by 512k; 03 April 2019 at 12:29. |

The "recycled files" feature of pfs naturally comes with a speed penalty and a few hickups, but it is also not at all mandatory.

Btw, people should do more testing of filesystem during out of memory situations... that sometimes reveals unwanted "features".

PFS3 is nice and fast, but till it not support 4k blocksize, it will kill your CF/SD soon.
I changed my CF cards to new FFS with 4k blocksize. |
