Get a very thin knife tool and gently push it in, then you can bend the metal thingie back.

thanks for that advice, in the end. Had to get a much more experience solderist that myself to do the job of fixing on a new 48 pin socket. Was hard getting it off .... but said was easy getting a new one on. It's in and now and working great!!!!!!!!!!!!!! well you get the odd flicker here and there but I guess it just hasn't warmed up yet
