Cyberstorm PPC vs Blizzard PPC CPU Speed Comparison

Hey Yo!

How much more faster is a 604/e@233mhz compared to a 603/e@240mhz? Is there a noticable difference in speed?

Regards,

i believe one of them is factory over clocked ppc chip and 603e was 040 ?

hmmm i might be wrong on the latter... they did make quite a few in series.

Here you can make some speed comparisons on games like Quake2:

some of them number are confusing zipper...

where as a:
ppc 603e @240mhz with 040 96MB ram (and voodoo3)
manages out-perform
ppc 603e @240mhz with 060 128MB ram (and voodoo3)

to the tune of nearly 15% and in some cases 200%

baffling... i wonder if its software optimisation.... or atleast in some part library revision.

Hey Yo!

Good link there zipper, thanks.

Those are weird figures lol OK. Say if the 060 was overclocked to 66mhz, would that 603e be faster than an 040 603e?

Regards,

thinking about it, if there using the PPC optimised version of the quake engine, then realisically there is going to be very little ot no differnece upon the 68k side processor...

if however there using 68k optimised code, then realisticall whats the point of PPC?

The way the PowerUP dual-cpu system works in conjunction with PowerUP/WarpOS, the 68k cpu needs to do quite a lot of housekeeping work for the PPC cpu, so the faster 68k cpu you have, the faster your PowerUp/WarpOS applications will run, even if the PPC cpu is clocked the same.

To get good results you need to keep the background tasks at minimum and free ram at maximum and defragmented..

Yes, there is. The 604e is much more faster than the 603e. It has double cache size and can use 64-bit memory on the csppc while the bppc has only 32-bit memory. The 604e is a little monster.
