A500 Hard Drive

i have an A500 with 1 MB ram & kickstart/workbench 1.3 & 2.04 is it possible to install a hard drive & if so would i be correct in thinking that it would have to be a 2.5 one, also would i need an adaptor of to use one in my A500 ? also what would be the benefits of installing one ?

thanks in advance.
