converting pal a600 to NTSC A600

Hi All,

Can the A600 be converted from PAL to NTSC via hardware. and if so what would need to be swapped out to make it work. I want to buy a A600 and an NTSC model is almost impossible to find

thanks.

You'd need to swap out the surface mounted Agnus with a NTSC model. Not an easy or cheap job. (And, even the Agnus is hard to find...)

If you can remove the suface mount Agnus and it still works I will swap it for an NTSC one.

Replacing the Agnus is AFAIK only one step in making it REALLY NTSC.

I have an NTSC Agnus (8375 318069-11) and you should have a PAL Agnus (8375 318069-10)

Doesn't the A600 come with the ECS Angus? If so, he should be able to either pull up or ground Pin 41 to toggle the video mode.

How about using the NTSC-version of the A520 modulator? Would that work?

the reason that wont work is because its TOO simple a solution...

you watch.... it WILL work...

strange though i thought the software specified a video mode (i remember a few games i got from the US that did was-it laborguini thingie... hmm cant remember) the PAL version you could select with the space bar on startup... or am i (as per usual) missing the point....

Quite right. You'll also have to swap some resistors and a oscillator. (thinking A1200 here, but probably the same for an A600)

But, I hadn't thought about the A520. It'd be worth a try...

Only the first ECS Agnus (1MByte) was a dual (PAL and NTSC) type. Most (all?) 8375 ones (2Mbyte) are two different chips.
