How "new" can an A1200 be in 2018?

Hey guys, I'm very excited about (and interested in) all the work regarding the A1200 recently.

If I'm doing the math correctly, we have the following options for completely new components for an A1200, all of which to me are very cool:

1. New caseworks from A1200.net (are there any more available?)
2. New keys from A1200.net (available?) or the new exciting Kipper2k project
3. New AmigaOS3.1.4 ROMs
4. New power supply (what's the best option these days?)
5. New ACA accelerators, or the upcoming Vampire V4
6. New gotek floppy disk drive emulators
7. New unpopulated A1200 motherboards from Chucky
8. USB mouse adapters which work with new mice, as well as a KVM switch

It's possible to build a fairly new computer out of much of this, and really one would only need a donor motherboard to do so. I'm also aware the Vampire V4 could run standalone, which is something that interests me as well, but that's still a way out (AFAICT) and I'm more interested in what's possible now.

What else is out there? What other updates or addons are worth having in a wedge A1200 that is new and exciting?

Yep, that's pretty much an almost new computer other than the custom chips and perhaps the 23-pin connectors and power connector, which might need to be brought over from the donor board too. There are a couple of sources for new PSUs, one Polish one in particular that comes to mind but can't remember the name of... And after that you're onto what lovely extras you would like USB, Prisma Megamix, LED strips under the vents

What chips can we get new for an A1200?

Conversely, what is the list of chips we'd absolutely need from a "donor" A1200?

The main chips you absolutely need from a donor board or a NOS source are the custom chips (Alice, Lisa, Gayle, Budgie, Paula), the GAL, the keyboard MPU and the CIAs. Then there are ones that you might need to transplant because they could be difficult to get hold of from other sources: the 68020, the RAM, the video DAC. The rest of the parts should be possible to source new, or have newer alternatives available that may be used (e.g. the video encoder, audio op-amps). Some other bits might be hard to get hold of too, for example the oscillator crystals and some other video-related bits.

Lots of people use these in various configurations to replace old commodore PSU internals. They're modern switched supplys so usually have some current clamping or such. I dont think there's any such protection in the original PSU's?

Those supplies are often used by people for replacements PSUs for 8-bits, since they tend to just need a single 5V supply, sometimes with an AC supply for peripheral power. But for the Amiga's triple-rail requirements, something from this selection might be better suited. Still very cheap, and better than any 30-year-old Commodore supply.

Oh perfect - might look at those myself. Currently I have an old uATX, a 500+, and the heavy 500 PSUs on my bench that I swap between.

(They all yield stability issues on something overclocked. )

Mind you the C= PSU's haven't been recapped. (I've opened them though, they look alright - i I know they could still be way off). Might do that next.

Blizzard 1230 V4 w/ 68030 @ 50Mhz, 128MB RAM + FPU
Getting the board recapped this week
GoTek drive instead of the floppy
64GB SD card on the IDE interface
Rapid Road USB
PCMCIA ethernet adapter
Building up a new PSU using the PicoPSU 90W setup (just waiting for the interface boards to become available in November)
AmigaRGB->SCART cable->HDMI adapter for hookup to modern LCD monitor.

Thinking about the Kipper2K keyboard replacement... We'll see...

Haven't had an Amiga in like 20 years, so now that I have one again I want to get it as close to maxed out as possible. And, yeah, if/when the Vampire comes that's a no brainer.
