Yeah, most of the hype has come from the media, I think Sony is largely to blame. Seems the release patch has added some elements, so hopefully the next one's will add more.
Sean Murray has hinted that the next patch will add "something", no idea what that is though. That's part of the problem I reckon, there has been no definitive information or direct answers to questions so people have been making their own story about it.

I should imagine the PC version will start becoming available for download just after midnight tonight. Reports say it's about a 6 Gb download so expect a wait, the servers might even be hammered depending where it's coming from though so may be worth waiting a while.
I have a couple of things to do over the next few days so may leave it for now.

According to Gog.com, downloads are unlocked in 25 hours-ish, so 5pm BST tomorrow... I have to admit, I'm feeling a little tense. Massive spoilers and exploits are filtering through to the review sites now.

Not available yet, it unlocks at 1800 BST. Probably because the server is in the USA and 6 hours behind GMT.

Yeah, this - I forgot that BST is an hour out... anyway, yes, one hour to go. Then I can start downloading. Then I can wait until 19:30 by which time I'll have put the small one to bed and can sit and play.

Ok, been playing it since about 19:30, and stopped at 01:30.

It's wonderful. It lives up to the hype without a shadow of a doubt.

Flying whales? Check. Dinosaurs? Check. Grind? Nope - once you know where to look, resources are pretty plentiful. Inventory management - ugh, yeah, that's bloody awful. Seamless transition between planetary flight and space? Check. Ship that can't crash? Yeah, don't like that at all. In-atmosphere controls really need to be overhauled too.

Effing big sharks in the sea? Yeah. A large Bowser? Yup. Walking on two legs, too. Hilarious.

I'm loving it so far, and I'm only a few hours in. I've seen enormous variation in the planets' ecologies and terrain.

But whether it holds enough interest for months or even years of play is up for debate. We'll see.

It's certainly not looking good at the moment, another very damning report on the Windows version over at Ars: http://arstechnica.co.uk/gaming/2016...s-port-issues/
And another patch released to try and mitigate it a little.
Glad I haven't bothered downloading it yet, I was going to after the weekend but think I'll give it some time for some more patches to come out first.
My advice to anyone that hasn't bought it yet is don't.

Just requested a refund from GOG and judging by the comments on their forum I'm not alone. See how that plays out.

I always think people make the mistake of buying hyped games on release instead of waiting to see what reviewers and forum posts are saying! Don't worry though, the publishers and devs shills will soon make the ratings overwhelmingly positive

"randomization as a crutch to the point of losing all potential personality."

Any 72 out of 100 scores to really damn it?

I think Boogie has the most realistic opinion so far. Many people won't like the game for what it is, plain and simple. Nothing is going to change there, its a niche game with Sony marketing behind it.

And the Francis version created specifically for Barry:

New patch coming:

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/no-.../1100-6442662/

I think this guy has a lifetime subscription the hype train. Yeah sure buddy, don't give -any- details. I'm sure people won't refund if the game is broken on their system and they can't know if it will be patched soon.

Had a reply from GOG yesterday approving my refund, they asked if I would prefer a cash refund or store credit, I chose store credit.
I never even downloaded the game because of all the outcry about it and I wasn't prepared to support Hello Games in any way for this piece of crap. That is what I put in my request for a refund and it has been approved, kudos to GOG for good customer support.
