Net Neutrality

A segment here discusses naming and shaming US politicians over the topic, but Im pretty confident that Euro politicans will follow suit eventually, if it becomes a thing "Over there".

Lets say this becomes a real issue, both in US and in Europa. You tech/network savvy people; is there any way around these things, or are we increasingly on the mercy of multi national corporations..?

I realise this seems very distant/unrealistic, but given the increasingly monetary mind of politicians, Im concerned it might arrive before rather than later. Take the potential of unrest due to increasing envirnmental incidents due to global warming, you got another reason for SOME politicians to tighten the grip of information.

Thoughts?

You are going to be at the mercy of your ISP

Currently with my Comcast account, if I had a Netflix account too I would not be seeing any throttling due to Netflix paying Comcast to provide full bandwidth streaming, this is the new world and everybody seems to be paying for it and in the end it's the consumer that pays the ultimate price.

How do you want to view your favorite content ?

I have mixed feelings about net neutrality. Servers should have to pay for the amount of bandwidth used just like phone download users on one hand, but should never be allowed to throttle based upon content.

Net Neutrality issue in USA was well covered by John Oliver on HBO:

There was topic about it started by me back then, but fucking forum purges itself. It is just meaningless to write anything here...

It was discussed multiple times that this stupid purging is meaningless and just hurts any discussion here on EAB, but since nothing changed, it is still the case.

Why don't we extend this idea to everything else, if you have a lot of traffic to your business just make people pay a toll to use that same piece of road to get there.

When you go to the market, they can decide oh you're buying toilet paper, we get too many people buying toilet paper and that makes us hire more cashiers, you have to pay a surcharge to use the normal line.
