Mispronounced game/game company/tech stuff names - Page 2

Learn something new every day: I had no idea it was "id" as in "bid".

Regarding another tech term: now outdated anyway but at least over here most people pronounced "SCSI" as "Ska-zee". How does that hold in international waters?

But I say NEC (as in NEC PC Engine) as N..E..C. And I've heard people say that as "Neck"

I've never heard anyone ever pronounce them as a word, they're always just spelled out S N K, and N E C.

One of the weirder mispronunciations I've commonly heard is people somehow pronouncing "Genesis" as "Megadrive."

NEC as neck (either in French or English). SNK as detached letters.

SCSI when I was young was (French) detached letters. Later heard it in English as Ska-zee, so I stick with that. Although I find it weird that the "rival" technology at the time, IDE is pronounced as detached letters.

I always pronounce NEC & SNK as their individual letters, same for IDE! SCSI, I have always known it (and heard it pronounced) as SKUZEE!

Well, it IS "scuzzy"! How else would you pronounce that? You're right about NEC and SNK, as they sound like they should be pronounced by letter.

As for SCART, I always called it as such, "scart". It would've taken too long to name it by letter. In any case, I never liked that standard anyway, those connectors were ridiculously HUGE compared to HDMI (also pronounced by letter) and they were notoriously weak and unreliable. Ever tried using a multi-SCART connector? Forget it, they were NIGHTMARES!

To Germans its funny how English speakers pronounce the unit "Hz"
MHz like "mehga-hurts"

The unit is named after Heinrich Hertz - pronounced "herrts" the "e" like in "error".

In French, since the company originated from here, we say something like IN (as in pINt, at least that's the closest sounding English word I can think of) FO GRAM (we don't pronounce the ending S, the A sounds more like pAst than the A in the English pronounciation of grAm)
