Alas no,

The Apollo's have a limited memory controller / counter, from this can only register 32MB of ram per slot.

As you may know there is an extra slot on most Apollo's that has to be populated with a 72pin simm socket before you can use it. And then you can have 64MB of ram using 2 ports (2x32MB)

The unfortunate thing is that with the second port populated you wont be able to get it back into a desktop amiga

Lastly, you can get memory a LOT cheaper on ebay.

you need to get 32MB 60ns FPM memory modules around £5 on eBay

I've been thinking about this, would it not fit with the horizontal simm socket fitted? so that the simm sits flat on the board.

Mine works well with edo 32mb 60ns simms.

What yah reckon beardy?

I have given it some thunk and I believe that it would be possible, however it would be the keyboard if anything that would stop it by hitting the SIMM itself.

my keyboard is slightly raised as i took a 12v graphics card fan and fitted it to the card, its fairly low profile and works so much better than that tiny 5v fan they put on the apollo's 040.

It might be possible.

Ahn? The original Apollo fan is 12V. Even those tiny ones.

BTW: if anyone wants a better solution for the fan, look for an angled notebook fan (those who stands vertical), blowing air directly to the heatsink.

the stock little fan was 5v on mine. To the other side of the cpu lay the 12v fan contacts on the pcb.

I'm struggling to fit a Fan on top of my 1240's heatsink, How exactly did you raise the keyboard and does the case still close together properly.

Some piccies would be fantastic, genuinely to help me cool my A1240, not to satisfy my fetish for Pr0n. Well it would do both really if I'm honest.

OK, time for hardware pron!

Someone tie Zetr0 on the chair and put a drool catcher on him!

BTW: this is an old pic from my A1200, in that era, Microbotics 1230XA with 030 and FPU @50MHz (after 56MHz), 128Mb Fast RAM, 4.3Gb HD.

Now with a f#$%¨#$% Apollo 1240/40 (when it wants to boot

), on a tower with 2.5" 43Gb, IDE DVD burner, MediTator, Voodoo3 and NIC, hacked Dataflyer SCSI+ 4000 version (with 2 SCSI HD 9.1 and 73Gb) and ROM3.9 (!!!).

I will look into sanding away the corners on my fan to allow for an easier fit,

The fan can fit alongside the CPU, but I think this would be pointless as it wont blow air through the fins.

Much appreciated, I think I got to get piccies of my apollo on here & let you guy's give me a verdict as to whether I actually need a fan.
The heatsink stuck on top is So Tall that I don't think a fan exists that would fit, or be of any use as the fins wouldn't provide the airflow,

rk's idea maybe my way forward.

But it does!

Quoting "Doc" from back to the future: "You aren't thinking in 3 dimensions" (He did said "4 dimensions", but anyway...). When the keyboard is in place, the air will be guided from the fan in the direction of the accelerator.

To feel more comfortable, use two rigid plastic "walls" in triangular shape to guide the air for the CPU only.

Thanks for the inspiration, Thats a brilliant idea, So the fan should blow air towards the card, and because of the added enclosures the air is forced out onto & through the heatsink fans.
My fan is a 5V type, can you recomend the connection points on the card???

I think You've helped me solve it rod....

the 12 volt fan connection pads are on the opposite side of the cpu to the 5v connection pads and should be marked....mine was.

Hi Doog,

I've got 1 point marked Fan by where you have soldered yours but it doesn't state the voltage, Obviously looking at your card that's 12V.

A good spot is the floppy power connector (always it...). No current drain from the accelerator is always good, specially in the Apollo1240 case.
