Need to network my A1200, but how?

Hello i did some searches here for networking an a1200, and saw one post about samba but it mentions OS4, I have no clue what OS4 means. I have an old setup when I go to workbench->about it says:
3.00 ROM
kickstart 39.106
workbench 39.29

so can anyone point me in the right direction in regard to connecting it to my network? I have a pcmcia card, but I wouldn't know where to get the amiga drivers for it or setting up TCP/IP. I suppose the main problem is even if I find the right software, how would I get that from my pc to my Amiga! Sigh I just want to backup my old amiga hard drive before it fails and I lose everything

thanks

Network card drivers:

http://www.aminet.net/search.php?query=cnetdevice
http://www.aminet.net/search.php?query=3com+pcmcia

Required OS fixes:

http://www.aminet.net/search.php?query=cardpatch
http://www.aminet.net/search.php?query=cardreset

TCP/IP stacks:

http://www.aminet.net/search.php?query=amitcp-demo
http://www.aminet.net/search.php?query=gendemo1
http://www.aminet.net/search.php?query=miami32
http://www.aminet.net/search.php?query=miamidx10

Samba:

http://www.amigasamba.org/

Instructions:

http://samba.amigaworld.net/

OS4 means AmigaOS 4.0 which is only available for and with AmigaOne motherboards. Nothing you could get or run on your Amiga.

BTW, you say nothing about your hardware configuration. To run TCP/IP you need more than the standard 2MB RAM, 4MB minimum. And for running Samba you should have at least another 4MB and a fast processor. A high-end Amiga with a 68060 accelerator and 32MB RAM or more would be best.

If you just want to backup your HD then it would be easier to just connect the HD to your PC. I did that with my 1200 HD. That was a 3.5" though so the cables in my PC fitted. The PC can't read your HD but WinUAE can! Then you can copy the files using Workbench on UAE to a folder or hardfile on your PC.

Guess that's the bad news It is a stock A1200, no extra memory or accelerator cards. I think my best bet then would be to get a pcmcia to cf adapter or do what flashlab recommended.

Thanks

You could try AmiTCP and AmigaExplorer. This would probably fit into the available memory and you would be able to access your Amiga's drives from the PC.

If you have the PCMCIA ethernet card, even with a stock 2Mbyte A1200 Amiga you can use Miami (use GTLayout instead of MUI to save RAM). You should get about 400kbyte to 1Mbyte / second.

If you dont have one, then a home-made 8-wire parallel cable and PC2AMIGA 3.08 is reasonable speed (400k to 600k/sec) but it requires booting to DOS, not nice with NTFS partitions.

A 40-pin to 44-pin adapter for your 2.5" drive and with http://www.viksoe.dk/adfview/ is the absolute fastest / best solution.

The guide is not in any way connected to this topic. It only describes the serial configuration, but we are talking about an ethernet connection which is not even mentioned in your guide.
