AmiCDFS & AmiCDROM
I've tried to install one of those two to finally be able to use my PCMCIA CD-ROM, but still no luck Both want to know which device to use (scsi.device is obviously the wrong one since it's on the PCMCIA port), and I have no idea what to tell them. All my random tries didn't achieve anything. Anyone?

I imagine you have tried obvious device names such as pcmcia.device, pcm.device and cd.device?
If they don't work then perhaps you should try the drivers for the Zappo cdrom drive, which was another pcmcia cdrom drive made for the Amiga. You can access the drivers here: http://www.l8r.net/install/hdc.html Otherwise, IDEFix might be worth trying. A demo version can be accessed on Aminet: http://ftp.uni-paderborn.de/aminetbin/find?idefix97 Last edited by DrBong; 21 October 2002 at 22:00. |

You did install some drivers first, didn't you? I'm not familiar with PCMCIA CD-ROMs, but you'll need to install some drivers for the PCMCIA stuff first.
If you did install some drivers, just check the driver disk for anything called *.device. Btw., what kind of PCMCIA CD-ROM is it? |

It's a QDrive 1241. The installation disk came with cd.device which I of course tried. I don't have any pcmcia.device driver or anything similar. I guess that's the whole problem. IDEFix came with something like tandemcd_pcmcia.device, but that didn't work, either. Will try the Zappo drivers tonight.

No luck with the Zappo drivers, either. After installing and rebooting, when I go to the Shell and type cd0:, the whole computer either freezes (until I turn it off) or it crashes with a Guru Meditation

I think you are out of luck then, unfortunately. It seems that the cd filing system bundled with the Q-Drive was a cut-down version of CacheCDFS that was later included as part of IDEFix by author, Oliver Kastl. You can read about it here:
http://www.aioworld.com/interviews/okastl.html I think your best hope is to post a request to comp.sys.amiga.hardware asking for some kind soul to email you the driver software. The other thing you could try is emailing Oliver Kastl (okastl@msn.com) and asking him kindly to send the required driver software. Hope that helps. |
