I think I might look out for a perfect Deuteros WHDLoad version.
Love that game. Never beat it though. Always crashed with glitched saves. Anyone else get that?

One game I never got finished playing was an OLD Activision graphical text adventure named Portal.

I have it for both the C64 and Amiga, pretty sure it was published for all the 8-bit comps and some of the 16-bits too like Atari ST and PC etc...

Not sure if there was ever a MAC version.

Of course it has a ton of text but what I thought was a great story if you don't mind the reading that is

A few PC recommendations from me would be Stellaris, Transport Fever 2, Civ 5 and the excellent "Baldurs Gate Style" RPG's Pillars of Eternity I & II.

All deep games that should give many, many hours of entertainment.

On a slightly different note I don't know how you lot are getting so much "free" time. I for one have to work from home plus I've got 2 kids to home school. I think I'll actually have less time to play games.

Just play the floppy disk version in my collection DDNI; saving works perfectly or you can just use SaveStates

I wholeheartedly second Civilization and Dune 2. For myself, I chose for this period to play the first Elite game and I have to say that it is very good. It is a good thing I didn't know about it when I had my CPC, my school grades would have plummeted!

Play from floppies: hours and hours of fun watching loading screens and swapping disks.

I'm currently playing No Man's Sky.. A boring game that you could potentially waste 3 months playing. Maybe, getting the virus is preferable. ;-)

Well I lack the kids so I win commute time. And to be honest I am far more productive at home so I allow myself to log off a little earlier than I normally would.

Been trying frontier today after following some guides. Is there any need for manual control ? I ask becuase auto pilot just takes you everywhere in one piece.

Thanks to everyone who has suggested so far. I'm just an Amiga gamer but im sure others will appreciate the non Amiga suggestions

Time sinks are easy, just google "live services" + game = no end.. ever.

Instead, why not grab a month of xbox game pass ultimate for PC (and xbox), try some new stuff?? https://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-game-pass

Ori and the blind forest and Celeste are both sweet "retro" platformers with modern sensibilities such as save game

Speaking of which, why not give a try to Deuteros prequel Millenium 2.2, I know for a fact a few veterans have played it to death. Corresponding web entry from Indie Retro News will offer you to download remake made by the Syntax Error team (download links from their blog are down, feel free to browse it despite of this). The other version isn't a remake per se, just some self-contained ADFs with Amiga emulator built-in. If I had the patience to read the manual, I'll probably be playing Burntime right now.

I was so close to finish Burntime - more than once.

Will have to revisit it and finish it. Had them add trainer to the game some time ago.

Amiga-wise, this "you're imprisoned with one game to play" thread had some good ideas.

If you like RPGs but don't mind old gfx (and graph paper mapping) the GoldBox series is the ultimate timesink. You can create a party and take it thorough all the games in the series, should keep you busy for a year or two It still has the best turn-based combat ever.

Midwinter 1 (&2) is another larger-than-life open-world game. One of my all-time favourites, well ahead of it's time. Actually, I really need to play it again, see how it plays accelerated on my ACA. The original was a bit of a slideshow.

Elite: Dangerous is great, but I'd argue its combat is more arcadey than Frontier. The main reason is that E: D enforces local speed limits whereas Frontier keeps things real. They did this because for E: D they wanted more in-your-face dogfighting than the long range shots and fast-pass jousting that happens in Frontier.

As far as my own suggestion: Evil's Doom (the absolute latest patched version). If you like pseudo-3D dungeon crawlers it's one of the most ambitious ever made. The graphics and mechanics aren't as good as Eye of the Beholder but the game itself is huge and there's also an overworld full of NPCs to recruit, miniquests, trading, etc.
