Hydro Dipping Case

Anyone thought of doing this?
Not sure if it works on plastic tho?
Retro bright doesn't seem to last and painting looks naff.

I've thought of it, but haven't figured out what pattern I'd like. We also have a few places that do that stuff over here. :-)

Resurrecting this thread as I was considering doing it to a spare A500 case. I believe A1200.net are using this process on their new cases. I think the process is a spray of Matt paint, hydro dip then laquer/clear coat.

Drygol from retrohax.net uses that I think.

One impressive case he created that way is here:

Other cases are here:

Wow, that looks like the cars from that American TV programme where they always spray-paint cars so that they look like themselves – tattooed men with the aesthetic sensibilities of a ten-year-old.

Look, idrougge, there is no need to be offending here.

To call the taste of someone else "aesthetic sensibilities of a ten-year-old" is somewhat inappropriate.

Who are you to judge?

If you dont like it, that's fine.

For those who like it, its the way it is: they like it.

Regardless of taste there is the point that the execution was well done from a craftsman perspective. Its easy to make things worse and mess up also and even the execution.

And by the way, I am less then confident that the official Commodore "Stefanie Tücking" cases look much better.

For the "purist" (I suppose I'm somewhere along those lines) the best bet appears to be a vinyl/plastic dye:

http://www.parasolinc.com/index.php/...aint-varibond/

I've worked with these a bit in the past--doesn't look anything like a typical paint, leaving the surface texture completely intact. Unlike chemical bleaching, no weakening of the material or future yellowing.

However, one problem is obtaining the correct color and reflectivity. I have a new 4000D bezel I've thought of sending them for color matching (would be great to restore a few bezels and A1200 cases etc laying around here), but it's ofc risky mailing something like that.

Another issue is removing the decals without damage, then properly reattaching, and replicating the clear protective covering (if you want to be super fussy, I suppose).

It can be done, just takes time and money :P
