A1200 Expansion

I have here an A1200 blizzard 1230mark II expansion board with an o30 processor and fpu (i think!)

However it has 3 slots free can anyone tell me what they are for and can i put anything in them to make it better

here is a pic!

I have got 64mb of ram in it on the other side but at one point i ALMOST threw it away as it seemed not to be working i am glad as hell i didn't! when i started my A1200 it would start with a yellow screen when the expansion was plugged in!

Also can i upgrade the 030 in it?

Also i have 2 other expansions doing nothing 1 is not bad and the other not so great i think as it has no chips on it. Seems very old!

Should i stick these on Ebay or in the market place? afaik they both work the 1220 deffo does as i used a bit when i thought my better one was knackerd!

Thanks

Which one is the board you believe is a Blizzard 1230 MK2? The one in first picture? As far as I can see none of them are Blizzard boards, so look through the various A1200 accelerators on www.amiga-hardware.com.

The Apollo 1220 might bring you a small amount on eBay, the card in the third picture wouldn't bring much because of the missing chips.

Hi DoctorQ the first one is indeed a Blizzard 1230 (c) 93/95 Phase 5 digital product

as you can see from this image (the flip side of the first picture in the first post!)

however i still am unsure if it's mk1 / 2 / 3 etc
and still no idea what the empty spaces are for anyone else care to say?

@DoctorQ again as you can see this is cleary a blizzard board how could you say that it's not??? maybe because you havent seen this version before? Also the turbo 1220 i've seen them fetch 20 uk pounds on ebay before and finally the last one with the missing chips is still a ram expansion upto 6mb if nothing else in your A1200 has to be worth a few quid!! i suspect the chips where never in it to start not missing!

And of course i already looked through that link you provided and i can read the writing on the side of the expansion i always knew it was a blizzard just not sure which version!

I thank you for your input anyway m8 and hope someone else answers too i still want to know what the other empty slots are for!

The 030 chip is the soldered down QFP on the lower right hand side of the picture. It cannot be upgraded.

It's almost certainly a [EDIT] Blizzard 1230 MKI

The empty socket on the FAR LEFT is for a PLCC packaged FPU, you cannot put anything there as you already have a PGA packaged FPU in the socket next to it on the right. The others I have no idea. It actually says what they are in silk screen (Yellow writing) on the PCB of your board. One says STROBE the other says COUNTER dunno what that means.

The last board is a FPU + RAM board, but it doesnt have an FPU fitted, and looks like it's got only 1 (out of either 4 or 8) meg fitted. You'd have to find out how much RAM had been fitted. Would definately be worth more fully populated and with an FPU. (If you want the RAM chips adding, post it to me)

Wow wow, relax dude. I just looked through the pictures of Blizzard accelerators on the website I linked to and none matched, that's why I ASKED if you were sure it was a BLIZZARD? I didn't even get a chance to answer after you had posted the second picture.

Secondly, if you base your prices on eBay prices, then you might be into a surprise, as even though an Apollo 020 sold the week before fetched 20 UKP, it doesn't mean that yours will bring the same.

-EDIT-

And finally, after looking through some more pictures, the Blizzard board you have is a Blizzard MK1.

@DoctorQ i wasn't having a go at you m8 sorry if it seemed that way!
was just a bit shocked that you might think it's not a blizzard board.

I too was suprised when i couldnt match up a picture on the site to what i've got hence asking round here plenty of knowledgeable guys

As for the turbo 1220 i'd stick a reserve on it

@AlexH thanks for the help m8 much appreciated! i'll ponder what to do next!

sorry bro, on the piss at the mo.

It should be a FPU on the 030 if the chip says 6881 or 68882 on it, if it says that then you should have a fpu .

I think 040/060 has a fpu built in

I have a 040 motherboard for a a4k but the a4k I have I got was broken

Some people have to much money. The price the Apollo 1220 is going for at the moment is the same as I paid for my Blizzard 1230 with SCSI kit!

Amazing that the seller can think the board is a GVP produced one, when GVP didn't produce a 020 boards.

@sarek2k

Indeed, ebay can be crazy. I was expecting an Apollo 1220 to sell for 20-25 UKP, but someone needs an 1220 badly it seems
