ILYAD from UBISOFT

Hi guys,

I just got a look on the Ilyad entry on HOL, stating that UBISOFT never released the game before 1992, and that amiga action released it in 1991.

This is actually inexact. The game was released in shops in 1990.

I have the original floppy disk of the game, and it states clearly (C) UBISOFT 1990. The game was also tested in the tilt magazine in February 1991 (the game was finished end 1990).

Can you please change the actual date to 1990 ?

check this BTW :

http://www.pixelageworld.it/articolo...oft-amiga-1990

this guy has the same original as me, saying the game was release in 1990.

Copyright dates on game disks can be inexact too. If you look at the back of the Ilyad box, it also says (c) 1991. Then there is also a loose Ilyad disk on Ebay right now that reads (c) 1989 (see HERE - fake?). So which is correct? It is hard to say.

Magazines can be even less reliable. Amiga Action claimed in their May '91 issue that they had a "never released" copy of the game on their coverdisk, yet ACAR (Australia) and ASM (Germany) were reviewing the Ubi Soft release in their May '91 issue also. It is possible that Tilt's Feb '91 review may have been in advance of the commercial release too.

When there is such confusion, it is often better to look at the date stamps of (exec) files on the original game disks or the scene releases. Is your original DOS or NDOS? I'm guessing NDOS, but hopefully not.

A Kultboy.com user claims it was released 1990 in Germany. He still has the receipt from a well known mail order company from August 1990.

Cool! From the translation it sounds like Adept actually found the receipt for the game and it was dated August 1990. Is that correct?

CFOU already did an installer, but well, if you want to do it again..... Be my guest !

About the release date, i think this game has in fact 2 versions. My disk is NDOS indeed, and from the infos i have gathered here and there, my disk was released end of 1990, this would explains the 1991 date.

The disk spotted by Drbong (Carlo), is surely a not dumped version, earlier release.
someone should get its hands on it !

"Makes me want to look at the protecion" = makes me want to look at the protection. Nothing else.

Would be good, but probably no big deal if he doesn't as there wouldn't be any real reason for him to be untruthful about it. Thanks for asking him, though!

The only headache now is trying to find out whether that original disk I spotted on Ebay was actually released in 1989 or not! Luckily, I know the seller.....so I might be able to twist his arm and get him to check the disk without having to buy it. Fingers crossed!

Too rich (and not interesting enough) for my blood atm! I'd much rather put that sort of money toward a boxed copy of the Ilyad (or a donation to RCK).

I assume you have done, but for others: definitely worth a look - smc+tvds+blitter obsf, longtracks, in-game checksums

PA is quite chatty in code, more graffiti:

hey ! this disk isn't a pd ! , don't hack it ! quortax , parilomiux ... stay cooooool !!!!!

HEY YO! DON'T CRACK THIS GAME !!

JCM is not the best ! WHO'S THE BEST !???...

ILYAD GAME DISK / PROTECTED BY P.ADANE (look for the next Amigaprotections...) [][][][][][][][][][][][][] DMA!

Pierre is here ! where's the protection ... FREEEEZZZZZEEERRRR is for LAAAAMMMMEEEERRRRR !!!!!!

*** ILYAD GAME DISK *** OLIVIER A UN GROS NEZ signe: Pierre

oppss ... Olivier dort comme un bebe... grrrrr.... grrrrrr.... grrrrr.... grrrrr.... dodo aciervar <- it's a GAG ! (swiss gag!)

Hello to Chris!

The last one is decrypted around one of the in-game checksums. I assume JCM = Jean-Charles Meyrignac. Very similar to Pang protection (also PA), but Ilyad has some cute extras.

Yes indeed, Jean Charles Meyrignac ahahah XD !

For the little story, Pierre Adane owes to JCM his ability to make optimized and better Amiga code. JCM was very efficient at doing great 68000, and Pierre got everything from him.
