According to sysinfo I'm only at about 0.55 the speed of a 25mhz 040 so I'd need to hit 100mhz on the 030 to get full speed of a 25mhz 040 making it 4 times faster per clock cycle.

Take what sysinfo says though with a grain of salt as the 030 according to motorola can push 20mips.

The 040's caches are much, much larger and more useful than the anemic caches on the 030, and many instructions received reductions in the number of cycles they took to execute.

So yeah, the 030 can run a small loop of very simple instructions just as fast as an 040 at the same clock, but in practical code the 040 has much higher IPC.

Just about the only thing the 040 was worse at was processing massive high precision trigonometric jobs vs. an 030+882 (882 could do trig natively, 040 couldn't), but even then the caches helped even the gap. Most code that needed the speed just used lower-precision tables or derivations.

Even if such admission just confirms I'm a complete and total bonehead.

In short there's nothing wrong with the bloody thing. Rather there's a complete lack of anything between my ears.

Was going back over the board today carefully measuring everything then found a jumper lying on the floor that had somehow fell off the board. You know the enable jumper on the top bloody right of damned accelerator. Put that back on and away she went. No issue, booted and has been happily running the Frontier intro for the last hour not missing a beat.

I'm lost for words and am away to chastise myself appropriately.
We all make mistakes in life Glen, but it doesn't necessarily mean you're a bone head for it.
You only become a bonehead if you keep making the same mistake over & over and don't learn from it.

So glad your card isn't fried & by the sounds of it, you've learnt even more along the way too! - Well done fella.

@GlenM

I've bought a full 030 with MMU and with Mufastrom i hit the 10k in sysinfo! Really Great
thanks for the Youtube tutorial
With iconstofast i obtain a responsive & smooth os.

It seems i've found a 110 Mhz clock, but as i don't have the reference of the clock on my TF330, i can't determine if it has the same voltage and if it is compatible

I really want to try 110Mhz with full 030 and a HDD. Ultimate CD32
I know the risk
Do you think this refence is suitable?

What reference have you used in your tests ?

EDIT : the reference below is 2.5v so i think it doesn't work
110 Mhz are hard to find but i found 108 or 112 mhz

Is this one better ?
