Apidya is much better, but it is always a matter of taste.

Some guys prefer mediocre games, that's what i've learned on EAB.

I liked the first level but to me it was more about trial and error - sure you have to learn most shooters patterns something but R-type was much less linear in this respect meaning you could tackle the levels differently.Project x reminded me a little of Delta c64 though not quite as harsh.

Silkworm for me for its excellent two player fun, and for such an old game it looks and sounds amazing. And it is actually playable as compared to some other shooters in the list...

But I think in terms of graphics, music and gameplay Apidya is the winner, its a close call and I let the two player element of Silkworm win

Silkworm in awesome in two player mode and I'd voted for it, *BUT* has IMO three flaws:
- "Atarish" look
- not equally powerfull vehicules for each player (remember the wars about who gets the copter? )
- it's hard (impossible) to find a (good ) second player these days

Apidya has IMO three advanteges:
- incredibly cool & cute & nice & colorful arcadish/japanish graphics
- beautiful music (especially in the 1st lvl )
- great playability (in 1 player mode)

So that's rather irrelevant, isn't it?

What are you voting for instead?

Actually, the name of the runner-up is now more interesting than the winner...

I don't know about that, there's only 3 votes separating the top three games

I can't remember having a vote this close before.

Actually, I always chose the jeep (even when playing alone), I find it's much more fun... My brother used to take the copter, and the pair of us always finished the game each and every time we started it... Awesome game!

Well, I voted for R-Type. I know that the conversion could've been better, definately. But that didn't stop me from playing this game again and again, being a big fan of the arcade version. This probably explains my vote . Guess I should've played the amiga version again before voting .

2nd place would be Apidya for me. Great graphics, great music, good gameplay. And, although I played it regularly, I still didn't ever play it longer than till the severs. Don't ask me why, I don't really have an explanation. But that's why I didn't vote for this game. I can't give a vote as "Best Game Of It's Kind" when I never got the motivation to play it till the end.

Silkworm, for me, is just real fun in two player mode. I also played it in single player, but then rarely till the end. Graphics are ok for me. In fact I even prefer the Amiga version over the arcade version. But still, no fun in single player = no vote for best game.

I rarely played Project-X. Just a few times and still I never really got interested in this game.

EDIT: Played R-Type again. Come on Zetr0, it's not a that bad conversion.
